Insightful and sometimes startling passions

Not many people would have the wit to come up with a category like "best musical not to involve Fred Astaire, Judy Garland, Gene Kelly, or Vincente Minnelli," and even fewer would have the good judgment to select "Good News" as the winner. Witty, insightful, provocative, and at times quirky, this led me to rewatch some old favorites with renewed appreciation and to seek out some I had missed.
