From the author of the wildly funny and smart novels Everyone Elses Girl and English as a Second Language comes a heartwarming tale of how a young woman deals with her friends becoming enemies while her seemingly perfect life goes awry.
A woman teetering on the brink of thirty, Augusta "Gus" Curtis has just stumbled over one of her friends making out with her boyfriend. This leads to Nate becoming her ex-boyfriend, and Helen her ex-friend. Unfortunately, Nate and Helen are part of a larger group of friends. The holidays are right around the corner, as well as the inevitable holiday parties, and Gus is forced to repeatedly interact with her former friends. Good thing she has her best friends, Amy Lee and Georgia to alternately prop her up and restrain her (though where were they when she went on a drunken bender and shrieked Janis Joplin lyrics into Nate and Helen's shocked faces?). Unfortunately, both Amy Lee and Georgia have their own secrets they're hiding. Will a few angry words be enough to destroy their friendship? Enter Nate's rich roommate, the evil (in Gus's mind) lawyer Henry. Henry was present when Gus found Nate sucking face with Helen. In fact, he let her in the door. He was also there to listen to her drunkenly sob, and later in the evening, to have sex with her. Henry has several skills, his most notable, the ability to reduce Gus's impressive vocabulary into sarcasm and four-letter words. Since Georgia had a high school crush on Satan-aka-Henry, Gus considers him off limits. Convincing her libido, however, is another story altogether. Very reminiscent of Bridget Jones Diary, right down to the much-maligned but preordained hero, Frenemies by Megan Crane is, nonetheless, an entertaining romp in the mind of a twenty-something-nearly-thirty single woman. This should be required reading for the confused male seeking insight into the feminine mind (though he may end up more confused than when he started). Laugh out loud humor, girl fights that make you cringe, and a heroine whom we get to see mature over the neat, nearly three hundred pages. What more could you ask for? Frenemies is a witty, must read. Clear your calendar, lock your doors, and settle in for this first-person frolic through post-college clutter to semi-respectable adulthood. My Best Friend sent me this book. She has a fast paced job in NY for a fortune 500 company, travels endlessly, and is in search of the perfect man in the city to move back south. I'm married, live in Alabama, own my home, and live and work in a town of about 800 people which consists of one small diner, a gas station and a blinking light. Our circle of friends also consists of two other girls, one of which is a lawyer, who both live in large cities in the southeast and are single and in search of the perfect man. Given this explanation this book really hit home for me - I loved it - it was hilarious. I have to agree with one of the other reviewers about Crane not having the ease of transitions of some of the other chick-lit writers I've read, however the story line was charming and plenty to keep me engaged. This book made me reminisce back to college and all of our crazy shenanigans, and at the same time help me to realize being on the verge of the big "3 0" is looming over all of our heads. Are we "grown up" or are we still living a different version of our college self?? I think a little of both - but I'm not pregnant yet! Anyway, thanks Megan Crane and thanks Ash for the great read - it made my weekend!
Frenemies is great, laugh out loud, and very enjoyable.

I'm a huge Megan Crane fan. i've loved all of her books and I think this is her best, yet. Anyone with interesting and important friendships will appreciate this work. Gus and her friends are wickedly funny, intelligent, engaging and REAL. I made the mistake of starting this book as I crawled into bed for an early night - i couldn't put it down and was up all night. I hope someone options the film rights!
Great Read!

I'm not a book worm by any means, and it takes a lot to keep me entertained. This book definately succeeded in peaking my interest, I finished it in two days! A must read for any woman who know that perfectly catty friend in your life.
