I have been homeschooling my daughter for several years and I was on the hunt for a decent French book that didn't break our budget. The AMSCO School Publishing group is a good source for homeschoolers searching for solid textbooks, especially their foreign language texts. This book has black and white drawings and concentrates heavily on grammar, and is great for preparation for Level II of Le Grand Concours, the national French exam. This book also has some interesting chapters about French culture, history and geography in the back. Student can write their answers in this workbook, which my daughter really liked, as it cuts down on carrying other books around. A second year continuation of the Blume and Stein French: First Year, this is a great workbook if you are learning along with an instructor, or perhaps using it as a review of material previously learned. As homeschoolers, we are using this book while taking French classes with a native French speaker at the Alliance Française, one of the world's largest schools of French language, which has chapters in most US metropolitan cities, including our city of Toledo, Ohio.
