Book Overview

Ryan Cawdor and his team are en route to his boyhood home in West Virginia when they are offered shelter--for a price--in the remains of the Freedom Mall, once the largest in the Carolinas, operated by Baron Freedom. The huge mall is a haven for its inhabitants, but Ryan is given an ultimatum--pay a hefty fine or help the Baron's group fight against the stickies, a marauding army of mutants. Ryan is left no choice but to help, and finds himself pitted...

A Mall lives on

just have a soft spot in my heart for this book, considering it was the first in the series that I read. Here Ryan and his companions jump to North Carolina. The survivors in this area have congregated (for protection and trade) in the ruins of "Freedom" shopping mall. You veterans of the books will know how it goes by now Dean gets into trouble here as I any other book. Then we have Mutants, Battles, Sex, Battles and more sex.

This was not one of the best in the series but it was good

Even though I have only been reading Deathlands from early '96 I have since then gotten almost every one of them and I would have to say that DeathLands is the best series I have ever read. This book was good, but defenitly not the best,in my oppinion too many things happend and made the book a little chessy.Oh and I think the characters you have are excellent,Dean one of the best I would think,so don't knock him off,ok James?

This is an above average Deathlands novel.

If you've read one Deathlands novel you've read them all, but there is something about them that makes me keep snapping them up. This one takes place in a shopping mall. There is the usual death and mayhem mixed with Axler's preachy rhetoric. Dean and Jack get locked up in the local slammer. The muties, led by a norm with a scarred face, attack the mall. Ryan fights a robot, and wins. Doc gets drunk and acts weird. J.B. breaks his glasses. They all escape the final big fight by wading down a sewer. Next installment, please...By the way, James, GET RID OF DEAN! I can't stand the little twirp. Surely Ryan Cawder's offspring could have more character and intelligence.

Always enjoy his cliff hanger style

As a long time fan since he started writting the series at number 2 I always enjoy the usual fare of stickies, bad guys and barons skillfullful put together with a high body count. Only problem with this volume is that Doc's LeMat revolver has magically changed from a 45 cal to a 36 cal. As I recall Doc lost his 36 cal in a creek several volumes ago and "acquired" a 45 with 63 center. Come on James, pay attention!
