A MUST read for panic self help

One of the best books out there on panic. Having agoraphobia I was really looking for hope. I found this book and it gave me so much inspiration to get out there and start challenging my beliefs and fears. I have read as many books as I can get my hands on to deal with panic and this is one of the best. This explains everything in a light hearted way, but with real scientific basis. Some books almost bring me to panic, but this book inspires. It's not a book you will read once and put down, never to be read again. You will find yourself constantly going over and re-reading to really gain mental strength. It wasn't a total cure for me but it has been the basis of my path to re-entering the world of the living.

For the self aware

This book starts with the authors personal story of living with an anxiety disorder. It is neither condescending nor difficult to read and uses humor and easy to understand examples. I liked how the author described anxiety as a spectrum that includes panic attacks, GAD, PTSD, and phobias. It is easy to see how one person can have behaviors and thoughts that fit into more than one category. The author gives you ample opportunity for self reflection and guides you to the root of your specific problem. It is expected that while reading this book you would be taking notes, doing the exercises, and actively participating in cognitive behavioral therapy. Although reading the book was insightful the life changing experiences can only be achieved through hard work.

This book is a very great self help book. It is easy to use and teaches in a clear down to earth way. I have read many other books on this subject and this book gives you the tools to truly overcome these issues. It worked for me and I am positive it can work for others who may or may not be using prescription drugs.

I myself am a tutor who works with elementary and middle school students. I currently have a student who has acute anxiety attacks that interfere with her attendance, since her anxiety triggers uncontrollable IBS for her. I checked with therapists locally for resources to help the 8th grade student and received a strong positive from a therapist who had studied under Dr. Liebgold. Dr. Liebgold actually had acute anxiety for many, many years. He managed to control it and/or keep it hidden. Now, he is sharing personally proven techniques that will help others impacted by anxiety. The therapist said that the student herself could read it and benfit from it; she also said that the book would be very helpful to parents.
