FREE WILLA DISCOURSE ON THE FIRST POINT OF CALVINISM, TOTAL DEPRAVITY, ALSO KNOWN AS TOTAL INABILITY, AND THE FIGMENT OF THE ARMINIAN IMAGINATION, FREE WILL.I was saved at the age of 27, and when that happened, everything changed. I began reading the Bible. I read for two hours in the morning before work and two hours at night after work. God gave me a hunger for His word. I clearly remember sharing what I had learned with the pastor who led me to the Lord. It seems to me like God chooses whom He will save, I said. The pastor responded in kind. It seems like that to me, too, he said. On my one year spiritual birthday I found myself in a Theological Seminary where Calvinism was a forbidden topic. John MacArthur's books were safely stored away under lock and key in the secret room that could only be entered with permission. Other books were freely available in the library including works by Luther, Calvin, Edwards, Owen, Spurgeon and many other Calvinists. Arminian works were also accessible on the shelves. The issue of Calvinism versus Arminianism is essential to a correct understanding of the Gospel, and so I read as much as I could. Is salvation of God or of man? Thousands of hours of study have led me to a conclusion which I believe is incontestable. I hope the knowledge that I have gained through years of persistent study of this topic will be a blessing to the reader, as it is detailed in this book. The Gospel is the most important issue known to man. A correct understanding of it is necessary to inherit eternal life. There are two basic opposing systems for understanding salvation, Calvinism and Arminianism. Though most today would probably not agree, historic Calvinism holds that Arminians are outside the Christian faith because of their faulty understanding of salvation. This book gives a defense for the historic, orthodox position that salvation begins and ends with God, and is something that man cannot attain to unless God first works in him. Man has no free will. Scripture verses and passages abound supporting this doctrine. So for the price of a cup of coffee, and in less than an hour, you will come away with a full understanding of what the Bible teaches regarding the total depravity of man, and his inability to do spiritual good in his unregenerate state. The debate rages like the flames of a petroleum fire, and as the waters of the Red Sea parted, so do many regarding the doctrine of free will. The camps stand facing each other ready to do battle as two armies of yesteryear. Total depravity is such a contentious issue that professors were fired for holding contrary beliefs at the seminary I attended. Students were dismissed. This is a hot button issue in the 21st century church. Does man have the ability to choose God, or is this ability a myth invented by the proud mind of man who wishes to elevate himself above his Creator?Scripture is not lacking regarding the doctrine of the sovereignty of God in salvation. Calvinists believe that God must change man's nature so that he can believe. Without the Holy Spirit first working grace in man's heart, it is impossible that he repent and believe. Arminians believe that all men are able to make the decision to accept Jesus of their own free will before God acts. This is the heart of the matter. Who acts first, God or man?
