Excellent and Thought-Provoking Read

Evans has written a book that provokes you to think like a true Christian should think like. While some of the concepts may not be new, it doesn't hurt to be reminded lest we fall into the old fleshly traps our sin nature wants us in. Among the important points covered in the book include: 1. Be careful of defining your identity by your performance. 2. The devil cannot get to us unless we let him. 3. Instead of giving part of your life to Jesus, give all of your life to Him! 4. Living by faith, as defined as believing God at His Word, pleases God and will activate His power in your life. 5. Principles of walking in the Spirit. 6. A description of what the flesh is and defining what walking in the flesh is. 7. Instead of focusing on your feelings about your circumstances, focus instead on Jesus. 8. Do not buy into the devil's lie that your situation is hopeless or unchangeable. 9. Our self-sufficiency creates a hard shell around us that prevents Christ from completely shining through. Instead, we need to realize our true self-insufficiency. 10. God keeps Himself distant from proud, self-reliant people. An excellent and highly recommended read. Enjoy and be encouraged in the Lord!

Knowing Your Identity in Christ

In "Free at Last," pastor and theologian Tony Evans explains who Christians truly are in Christ. His essential point clarifies that the "old man" of Romans 6 is truly dead and that the believer is not two people (an "old man" and a "new man") simultaneously. Evans further explains that the believer's battle against sin is not a battle between two equally powerful forces, or persons, or personalities. Rather, it is a battle between the one new person in Christ and the remnants of the old ways (the "flesh") learned prior to salvation. It's still a battle--but one eminently winnable through Christ who declares us "more than conquerors." As the subtitle suggests, "Experiencing True Freedom through Your Identity in Christ," Evans uses biblical passages and current illustrations to reveal the new you--the true you in Christ. The message is encouraging, empowering, practical and thoroughly biblical. Reviewer: Dr Robert W. Kellemen is the author of "Soul Physicians," "Spiritual Friends," and "Beyond the Suffering: Embracing the Legacy of African American Soul Care and Spiritual Direction."

Using the freedom God has given us

In his book, Free at Last, Tony Evans explores the problem of Christians who continue to sin and who do not fully utilize the freedom they have received in Christ. He compares Satan to a plantation owner who knows that legally his slaves have been freed but who tries to convince them that they'll never make it in this world without him. He says that sometimes we need to make it to rock bottom before we realize that "Christ IS the Rock at the bottom." He details the great power we have in Christ if we will but turn our lives over to Him and allow Him to work through us so that we can be all that God intended us to be. He discusses strongholds which all of us have and how to overcome those strongholds with the power of Christ. This is a very inspiring and encouraging book, both for those who have not confessed Christ and for those who have been Christians for many years.

Very Practical & Inspirational! Easy, casual reading style!

I really liked what this book taught me about New Testament concepts. I feel better about my own Christian Walk, after learning so much more about how The Bible teaches us to think, concerning LIVING as a Christian. The author, Tony Evans, has a very easy-going writing style that is often as humorous and entertaining as it is informative and inspirational. It is very much like his terrific, daily radio sermons; some laughs, but much in-depth Bible references and what specific scriptures really mean, as applied to everyday living.Dr. Evans talks alot about Satan and how Satan tries to trip up people, especially Christians; and then explains how we are to live, to beat the devil's tactics and strategies, how to go deeper with your faith so that it becomes your saving grace, as it should be. If you're one who doesn't believe in Satan, and you don't really believe that Satan exists, then you won't like this book, because this book hits the topic straight on.This book covers many Biblical concepts, mostly from the New Testament, such as: Living in the "flesh" vs. living with the HOLY SPIRIT; how the HOLY SPIRIT steers us to avoid destructive things that non-Chrisians don't mind at all in modern, daily living; how to quit "double-mindedness," the problem of trying to live as a Christian AND also as a materialistic, non-Christian at the same time (which doesn't work); how to stop doubting your salvation (a favorite strategy of Satan's to discourage believers) and really start embracing your Christian lifestyle; and more. After reading this book, Tony Evans is now my favorite Christian author. I am very happy that I read this insightful and helpful book. It has really helped me to embrace my faith more effectively, and how to live better by living correctly, according to Biblical principles. It really did help me to be free from some negative lifestyle issues that had been dragging me down, before I read what this book teaches. I recommend this book to any Christian reader who is seeking more insight into the teachings of the New Testament.

True Freedom

In the engaging and visual style of Tony Evans, you will truly learn the secret which Satan so desperately wants to keep hidden from you...WHO YOU TRULY ARE IN CHRIST!! If you've ever look in the mirror frustrated, or even disgusted, by what you see, feeling locked in the image staring back at you...that person who continually fails sometimes even five minutes after she just vowed she wouldn't do that "thing" again, or weighed down by the weight of a past pain or hurt which not enough time or prayer has been able to heal, or wondering if you will ever "be more" or "measure up," then this book is for you. Many Christians know they are free from the eternal penalty of their sins, but they are still in bondage to sin on this earth. Their hearts aren't rebellious. They want to obey. They want to do what is right. They just can't. Tony Evans reveals how Satan has skillfully used that lie to hold Christians in a prison from which Christ has already set them free. He also shows you how to maintain your freedom once you realize it. It's already yours, you just need to realize it, believe it and live it. Often that last step is the stumbling block. We know intellectually we're free, but we still don't feel free, so we fall...again. Tony understands that struggle and he understands the trap Satan has set to make us feel that way, and he knows how to destroy that trap once and for all. The grace of God is one of the most powerful truths Christians will ever learn yet it is one of the hardest truths to grasp. Study this book and learn how to embrace the grace of God, finally letting the grace of God live through you and for you so that you, too, can exclaim, "Free at last, free at last. Thank God Almighty, I'm free at last."
