Frasier Island

FRASIER ISLAND is a fast-paced novel that you won't want to put down. Ensign Rachel Whitney gets her dream assignment, being stationed on the secluded island of Frasier. After reading up on the man who will be her C.O., she can't wait to meet the legend, Lt. George Hudson. Her thoughts quickly change when she finds him cold and unapproachable. Both Hudson and Whitney try to ignore the tension between them, while Pierre, the third person in the crew realizes the tension is due to the mutual attraction Hudson and Whitney feel for each other but refuse to admit to. I loved FRASIER ISLAND. The intrigue and tug-of-war of emotions between the characters made it that I didn't want to put the book down.

Great Romantic Suspense

Ensign Rachel Whitney is one ambitious woman. She is determined to carve out a sterling career in the navy. Rachel is assigned to a remote island in the Pacific very few people know about. Only two others are stationed here and they are guarding a highly classified secret. Pierre Belanger is looking forward to finishing out his term and going home to be married. George Hudson, the commanding officer doesn't want a woman stationed on the island and he makes no effort to make things easy for her. George has been on Frasier Island longer than anyone else. He knows Rachel is highly trained and efficient, but he still thinks she doesn't belong there. Then someone sells information about the Island and the secret they are guarding isn't a secret anymore. The Island becomes a very dangerous place. An exciting story about a man and woman thrust into a situation that may require them to give their lives serving their country. High Adventure and romance with a strong message of faith. This is Susan Page Davis' best book yet. I strongly recommend it.

COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN...

Fraiser Island was a fast paced page turner. The story centers around George Hudson and Rachel Whitney. George is on a the very remote Fraiser Island. He is there with Pierre Belanger and Ron Davidson. Ron's assignment on the Island is up and he is being replaced by Rachel. Rachel and George each have their reasons for being is such a remote location. Dealing with past hurts is a big part of that. Their attraction is instant but each batton-down-the-hatches on their feelings. George is not mean per-say but not overly friendly. Rachel really tries hard to get in his good graces. She is well trained but not afraid to be female. She and Pierre become very good friends. They have a good time together and Pierre slowly tries to bridge the gap between her and George. George has not been honost about what they are really guarding. He finally clues her in. There is a lot that happens after this part in the story. You are not sure who the enemy is. There are hints but you keep turning pages to see what happens next. I agree with the other reviewers that Susan gave us the perfect balance of romance and suspense. And I did love the last chapter. That is worth the whole book. Aaahhhhh!!!!! The characters and emotions felt very real. She sucked you in on the first page and by the end of the book you've fallen in love with each of them and feel like you were part of their journey. Get the book! It's a keeper. I can't wait for Finding Marie due out in September. That is Pierre and Marie's story. She turns up missing and Pierre calls on his best friend George. Great work Susan!

A page turner!

Ensign Rachel Whitney is thrilled when she is assigned to Frasier Island, a remote, highly classified naval outpost under the command of the legendary Lieutenant George Hudson. With a burning drive to succeed born out of past trauma, Rachel's quick temper flares when she encounters immediate hostility from her enigmatic commanding officer. Armed with her newly-minted Christian faith, she determines to acquit herself well and attempts to stifle her unwanted attraction to George, in spite of the prickling tension that exisits between them. Unbeknownst to Rachel, George has scars of his own that led him to embrace the isolation offered by the Frasier Island assignment - it was the perfect chance for him to retreat from painful memories and risky relationships. However, when word of the precious secret the Navy guards on Frasier leaks out and hostile forces begin to threaten their lonely outpost, Rachel and George must set aside their differences and learn to trust each other in order to survive. I began reading Frasier Island with some trepidation -- after all, Dee Henderson set the standard high for military-themed romantic suspense novels with her Uncommon Heroes series. However, Susan Page Davis has proven more than equal to the challenge -- Frasier Island announces Davis's presence in the romantic suspense genre with an explosive bang. She expertly balances the "romance" and "suspense" elements of the story, providing an altogether satisfying read. The plot crackles with suspense, but what kept me turning pages were the well-drawn characters. Rachel and George are so believably real and authentic, their every motivation and reaction credible, that they practically leap living and breathing from the page. Their actions, reactions, and motivations are clearly and realistically established. It's impossible not to become emotionally invested in these two and their budding relationship. Their romance is beautifully told and well-developed. The faith element is, for the most part, incorporated extremely well into narrative. That said, I would have liked seeing a little more of a "pre-Christian" Rachel as I think establishing that groundwork would have added a little welcome depth to her faith journey. But that's a relatively minor caveat in this otherwise fast-paced, enjoyable read. Highly recommended. The sequel, Finding Marie, releases in September.

Romantic suspense that is truly romantic...

Wow! This story packed some emotional punch. I enjoyed the romance and the suspense equally. That's very unusual for me because I usually prefer the romance, but the intrigue was fabulous! The romantic element and suspense were so intricately woven together that separating the two elements would've unraveled the entire story. I loved George about as much as Rachel did! He was such a great hero in every sense. The longing they felt for each other was perfectly done. It made my heart ache despite the fact that they were fictional characters. At times I lost sight of that fact and just wanted to see them together. And that first kiss....ahhhhh. Very satisfying. Rachel was tough, but lovable and cute. I enjoyed experiencing her character growth along with her. Trust was hard for her to learn, but rewarding when she experienced the benefits of putting her life in God's capable hands. In some ways this story had an exotic feel like the Hawaiian setting of Heitzmann's novel Freefall (which was awesome!) Frasier Island was different in that it had a touch of Gilligan's Island sentiment. Portions of the book had a real "castaway" feel. Rachel made me think of Maryann because she was fun and dainty, yet also tough when needed. George and Rachel were so isolated on that island that at times it made me get the shivers. And not knowing who the bad guy was for the last third of the book was quite exciting. Sure, there were little hints dropped as who it might be, but I felt the tension as they hid from the unknown. I loved how they had to protect themselves and stay on the offensive at the same time. Brilliantly done! The secondary characters were also terrific. Pierre was a dream and Brian was creepy at first. I can't wait for the next book in the series. Oh, and the last chapter of Frasier Island was probably the best part of the story. Talk about great endings! This was no wall-banger. It made me want to sigh and grin like a fool. I loved this book!
