A mathematical disgrace

Reading the limited math in this book is very frustrating. The typographical errors and technical errors in this book are a disgrace. They cause the reader to waste considerable time in trying to correct the author's and publisher's errors. An example of technical error is the definition of "B sub c" and "B sub e" on page 162 as data rates rather than their correct characterization as burst sizes. Then on page 163 defining the Committed Information Rate(CIR) as CIR=Bsubc/Tsubc. A rate divided by time is not a rate! The correct characterization is given on page 204 of "Frame Relay Principles and Applications" by Philip Smith, Addison-Wesley.Obvious typographical errors of mathematical expressions appear wherever an equation is provided in the text for example those on page 168 for the "Area of the previous cycle" and on 181 for the variable SRTT, smoothed round trip time. The math in this book is not rocket science yet the author and the publisher can't get it correct! Such errors are inexcusable considering the price of this soft covered book.

A must have for anyone implementing/ supporting Frame Relay

This is a great book for anyone wanting to know details about how Frame Relay networks work. There are very few books on Frame Relay but I found that this book met my needs. I rate it a four only because the end gets in to great detail, far more than I would ever use as an administrator. The book is very well written - giving the reader a good foundation in the basics and concluding with great detail. If you need or want to learn about Frame Relay this book is a good investment.
