4.5 Stars: Passion and tenderness in love, compassion in medicine. A wonderful mix

Dramatic, romantic and compassionate, FOUND: A FATHER FOR HER CHILD starts off with an explosive bang and moves into tender and passionate territory as hero and heroine meet. Passion unites them whereas their medical positions conflict with one another's duty. Can love and a little child find a way to open both their hearts? Carrie Douglas has everything figured out. She's ambitious and on the way up in medical management. A sudden car accident brings her head to head with a medical emergency and the sexy Dr. Charlie Wentworth. As they work together to save a man, all of Carrie's past comes flooding back to her. Charlie is good at the mechanics of medicine, his focused attention on the patient, with his actions quick and purposeful. But Charlie is more than a hot shot doctor. He also brings a soothing, comforting touch to both Carrie and her daughter in the midst of this horrific medical situation. When Carrie arrives at her next job, an audit of a drop-in clinic for the needy, she knows her job. It's figures, a simple sink or swim. At least that is what she thinks until she runs into the head of the clinic --- Dr. Charlie Wentworth! As she assesses the sustainability of the clinic, both patients and doctor open her heart. Charlie is a natural with her daughter but he also has some secrets, a medial and familial past he is not telling her. When it comes time to turn in her report, will she follow the numbers and recommend closure of the Brisbane clinic or will she open her heart beyond numbers? Can love bring both Carrie and Charlie back to the dreams of their hearts? On the explosive-tender spectrum, FOUND: A FATHER FOR HER CHILD has more tenderness than than some of her more explosive, passionate Medical Romances. While still hot, this romance shows the breadth in this author's writing and her ability to write in subtle emotional shades of romance most suitable for her characters and situations. Amy Andrews new romance is more than a romance between the hero and heroine. FOUND: A FATHER FOR HER CHILD shows medicine serving people, patients who cannot afford fancy medical care. The dedication in this book to medical workers who serve society's poor and disadvantaged moves the reader while creating a focal from which to view this medical romance. How refreshing it is to see authors writing about those medical professionals for whom their medical calling is about service to others instead of a big money grab or about flaunting wealth. FOUND: A FATHER FOR HER CHILD isn't just about passion for an individual but also compassion for others. In this romance, Amy Andrews shows that compassion also takes steadfastness. The patients aren't always easy, and sometimes compassion takes a different kind of courage and resolution of purpose in a real life hero and heroine as compared to the famed celebrity and business heroes we see in the press. Amy Andrews gives an image of medicine that merges management and in-the-trenches community medicine together

Carrie Douglas is all about the bottom line. Her business and medical degrees have helped propel her career after it almost derailed early on. Auditing an inner city outreach program should be a breeze. But that was before she met Dr. Charlie Wentworth. Charlie is dedicated to his job, to helping those in the community less fortunate than he. Will the sparks flying between these two ignite? And how will Charlie handle Carrie's four year old daughter, Dana? Admittedly, I was quite skeptical when I opened the pages of FOUND: A FATHER FOR HER CHILD. Not only is the book extremely short, but I'm not generally fond of romances involving doctors. Then I opened the pages and started reading... and Amy Andrews made a believer out of me! Amy Andrews made me care about Carrie and Charlie. Despite the brevity of the format, she creates fully developed characters who draw you into their world. The tension builds between them as their dreams and goals collide while the mutual attraction sizzles. Amy Andrews doesn't hesitate to address some rather weighty issues with her characters, either. Charlie and Carrie face tough, true to life situations. I particularly appreciated the fact that Ms. Andrews doesn't gloss over the situations that arise when working with a high risk population. FOUND: A FATHER FOR HER CHILD is my first foray into the Harlequin Medical Romance category line. If any of the other books are even halfway as good as this effort by Amy Andrews, then this is a line that should be receiving far more attention than it does. Regardless, Amy Andrews has a new fan in this reviewer! COURTESY OF CK2S KWIPS AND KRITIQUES
