Set in Dodge City Suzanna Prentice is doing the best she can to make a living for herself and son working in a dance hall. A romance strikes between her and a handsome gambler after he is shot by a card cheat. The story was well written and worked in a lot of the history of Dodge City without making you feel like you sat through a history class. The charactor of Jared as the hero with a lonely heart made me when to take him home and cook for him! Give this novel and other works by Victoria Thompson, she has not disappointed me yet.
