Well Written!

This is a great study especially for a mens group. The author helps you understand the time and eras involved in the characters. Understanding these cultures makes an important impact on the lessons we can learn from said characters. 5 stars!

Forged in the Fire

We are all works in process. Just as gold goes through the refiner's fire to separate the foreign metals from the valuable, true gold, we go through a similar process. What flaws will be revealed in us? Will these times draw us closer to God or will they expose weakness of character and a shaky spiritual foundation? How we respond to life's challenges says much about our walk with God. Tim Burns study Forged by the Fire: Shaped by the Master looks at four men of great influence in the Bible--David, Joseph, King Saul and Hezekiah. Each were placed in positions of authority. None were perfect, and yet David and Joseph grew into strong, Godly leaders, while Saul and Hezekiah faltered in their faith. Adversity revealed their true character. How would we measure up? At times Burns candidness with questions, makes one squirm, but it reveals work areas where we can strengthen our growth points. Burns' study is written in the tradition of Henry Blackaby's Experiencing God. It comes in workbook format and leaves ample room for written reflection. The materials can be used as a small group study but because of its in-depth nature seems best suited to independent study. It is sure to challenge the reader to stand firm in his/her faith and take measure to grow to a more mature relationship with Christ. I realy enjoyed the study and would definitely purchase more from this author.

God Knows Your Heart

Often people do things haphazardly then justify their actions with these words - God knows my heart. The truth of the matter is - He really does. "Forged In The Fire - Shaped By The Master" speaks to the issue of heart matters by bringing readers face to face with reality - we are ordinary people who can be used by God. How and to what degree depends upon the condition of the heart.Author, Tim Burns has presented a study that invites its participants to the table of choice and self examination. Throughout this twelve week course the lives of four men chosen by God to lead Israel are examined. It is the presentation of the lives of King David, Joseph, King Saul and King Hezekiah that we come to see a little, (if not a lot) of ourselves. Many today are hard pressed to see how biblical circumstances can be applied to their stressful conditions. "Forged In The Fire - Shaped By The Master", through practical application, skillfully speaks to those concerns. As with the aforementioned rulers, we too have choices. Examining circumstances and choices made by the biblical leaders shows the consistency of human nature and the faithfulness of God. David and Joseph sought to serve God with pure hearts. Saul and Hezekiah deviated from righteousness causing other to suffer the consequence of their choices. God's response to each upheld the righteousness of His eternal word. As it was then, it is now. Regardless of your station in life and level in your spiritual walk, "Forged In The Fire - Shaped By The Master" clearly shows that God has chosen you and wants you to chose a right relationship with Him.-Dr. Linda F. How God Shapes Those He Uses

There is a certain understanding in contemporary American Christianity that says once you come to faith in Christ, you will begin to experience a life of unending bliss. But, author and speaker, Tim Burns has written a well-crafted and Biblical alternative that suggests God may take his most-loved servants and put them through the crucible of hardship. Forged in the Fire is a comprehensive study of the life of God's great leaders. Why did God bring David to the peaks of victory over Israel's sworn enemy only to plunge him into a web of deceit and betrayal? Why did God allow Joseph to be nearly killed by his brothers, sold into a foreign empire, and accused of rape? This is not the life that most Christians would eagerly sign up for, but Burns argues that this is the way God prepares his leaders. He thrusts them into the fire, shaping their character, and making them battle-ready. Forged in the Fire is a wonderfully interactive resource with a daily Scripture guide. It can be used for personal devotional study and journaling, as a teaching guide for small groups, or as a curriculum for advanced Bible classes. Forged in the Fire mixes the practical and the spiritual, bringing the compelling stories of ancient Bible characters to life. Part teaching tool, part workbook, part personal journey, this book will be an excellent resource in helping to build your faith in God.
