This is a great story, the plot and characters have great depth. The flashbacks didn't bother me a bit, they served to clarify what was going on. I'm really glad I bought this book. It's definetly one I'll hang on to, and I'm picky about which books I keep. I especially like the way Ms. Early incorporates historical and cultural information into her books. I learned something while being entertained. Always a bonus.
Excellent Writing

Margot Early is a truly gifted writer. Her characters are well developed and complete. The story draws you in and holds you. There is nothing lacking. She has the gift of being able to make fictional characters and their stories come alive. This is rare and should be appreciated, not criticized. There is depth to what she writes, which may be too much for the typical romance reader. I agree that she is in the wrong genre and should probably find a better way to get her work published. My advise is this, if you want a typical everyday, buy-it-off-the-supermarket-shelf no-brainer paperback romance then this is not the book for you. If, on the other hand, you have a working brain (along with the ability to recognize a flashback when you see one - this apparently is rare too) and you want to truly fall in love with the characters and their story then I highly recommend this book. I doubt Margot Early is in any danger of losing her fans, her writing gets better and stronger with each book.
