This is one of Linda Chaikin's best. It's set in tropical Hawaii as well as San Fransisco. In the book, Eden is stuck in the middle of Hawaiian politics, as well as the mystery surrounding her mother's death. How can she learn the truth? If that isn't enough, this novel also tells you about the first missionaries to come to Hawaii and their somewhat wayward descendants. It also has romance! A MUST read!
Eden finds out about her mothers death after much opposition

I thought this book is one of Linda Chaikin's best. I enjoy history and appereciated the history of how Americans first came to Hawaii and how some cared enough to start a leper colony. Eden chooses to become a nurse to help her father discover a cure for the lepers. I also enjoyed the mystery of how Eden tried to find out how her mother actually died since no one ever wanted to discuss it with her.
