Share this with your "non-cat" friends!!!

I've had this book for a few months, but it's spent lots of time with friends who are shut-ins or hospital patients. Brings a smile to everyone's face, even "non-cat" people!

An illustrated assortment of cat trivia

With plenty of brilliant cat pictures, this book looks at the relationship between people and cats, so should provide cat lovers everywhere with a lot of fun. The book is full of great quotes (for example - thousands of years ago, cats were worshipped as gods and cats have never forgotten). Amongst all the fun, you might actually learn a few things you didn't know about cats. The book mainly focuses on domestic cats but the big cats are here too. Throughout the book are light-hearted pieces, such as ten ways to worship your cat. The first section deals with cats through the ages, giving alternative explanations of where they came from. Those who believe, as I do, in Darwin's theory of evolution can read about the miacids - the common ancestors of big cats and domestic cats, while those who prefer mythology and folklore can read alternative theories. Whatever their origin, it seems that domestication of cats began accidentally in ancient Egypt. Mice were attracted to the vast quantities of grain stored by Egyptian farmers and the mice in turn attracted the cats. The farmers, realizing how useful the cats were, encouraged them to stick around. African wildcats similar to the original domestic cats can still be found in Africa and the Middle East. The remaining sections deal with cats as we know them. Famous cats and famous cat-lovers, as well as a few cat-haters, are featured, as are cats in literature, poetry, advertizing, movies, music, art, cartoons and the White House. The book also features various proverbs and stories from all over the world, most notably Dick Whittington. There is plenty of other trivia including popular breeds and names (apparently, Tigger and Tiger are the most popular names for American cats). Dogs get a few mentions, always unflattering, but I note that the equivalent book about dogs, by a different author, doesn't mention cats. Really, there's plenty of room for both. A lot of people, including myself, like cats AND dogs even if they have a preference for one or the other. If you love cats, you'll love this book. If you know somebody who loves cat but you don't understand why, reading this book might help you understand.

A Wonderful Exrerience

My wife and I both read and throughly enjoyed this book so much so that we ordered an additional copy for a cat friend that was in a nursing home. She enjoyed it and subsequently gave the information to a patient friend who also ordered it. I did not wish to give my copy up since I felt it would remain in our home a a wonderful reference for our family and friends. For any cat lover it is must reading for the insights into the Cat World, I learned a lot from the reading and I highly recomend it for all Cat Lovers
