Horse lover's heavan

This is one of the best horse books ever--one of the best books ever. This book is sad, funny, and at moments quite terrifying. This is a great book for people of all ages and it is really a pity that they are out of print. I advise anyone to buy this book--it's really worth it.

These books are magical, to say the least

This title For Love of a Horse, and the other eleven in the series are the best horse stories I have ever read - I can't believe they are currently out of print!?! This first book sets up the series, where Jinny and her family move to the Scottish highlands and Jinny rescues Shantih from the circus and brings her home to Finmory. Patricia Leitch writes in a way that lets you share in Jinny's happiness, pain, family life, and perils of growing up. The other books in the series in order are: A Devil to Ride -- The Summer Riders -- Night of the Red Horse -- Gallop to the Hills -- Horse in a Million -- The Magic Pony -- Ride Like the Wind -- Chestnut Gold -- Jump for the Moon -- Horse of Fire -- Running Wild. I am lucky enough to have read them all and own eight of them, and have read them over and over. Please reprint these(!!) so a new generation can enjoy Patricia Leitch's Jinny stories.

Superb book!!!!

For as long as i can remember this has been one of my favorite books, I found my copy in the attic recently along with the summer riders. Is it just me or does Summer riders read as though there should have been another book in between?FOr love of a horse is very touching and any other horse crazy kids will probably have an easy time relating to jinny, her dreams, and her obsticles. If you run across a copy of this book BUY IT at any cost. If you know of copies of OTHERS< PLEASE tell me?

A Magical Arab in a Magical Story

Jinny Manders is fullfilling her dreams as they move into the country. Her first night there she and her family go to the circus and there she meets Shantih, a brilliant, magical, Arab, for the first time. In that instant she knows that she won't stop until the mare is hers. There's a touch of Magic in all the Jinny books that makes them rewarding to read. I enjoyed the true to life interaction between the characters, and, of course, the portrayal of a truly amazing horse.

What a shame this is out of print!

"For Love of a Horse" is, for me, hands-down, the best horse book I read growing up. (And I'm no pushover when it comes to the Black Stallion series, either, which I love, love, love to this day). The plot threads are woven into quite a complex narrative--there are family and friend issues (Ken, especially, is a fascinating character to find in the "preteen" market), social concerns bubbling under the surface, animal rights arguments to be made, and of course, explorations of acculturation--both of Ginny and of Shantih. This book can be enjoyed as an adult as well as a child. It's one I've wished would be made into a movie for years--it has EVERYTHING! Adventure, scenery, danger, triumph. Unfortunately, studios don't seem to know the book exists.Does anybody know to whom I'd write to find out about getting scriptwriting rights? If they aren't going to do it, maybe I'll tackle it myself!
