A difficult, but great book to write.

Yes, I'm the author, and yes, I'm giving it five stars because I think it's an important book at this time of strife in our country. By creating an anecdotal account of only some of our heroes (real heroes--not rock stars, movies actors, or athletes) I've also been able to assemble a short history of our country from the revolution on. While some ridicule true heroism, particularly in the military, I think it's important for our youth to know about their heritage--to know about responsibility...for that's what heroism boils down to usually. This country was built and defended by responsible people, and we should be proud of them--well-known, or obscure. Unfortunately, so many could not be included. I think this work, my 17th published book, belongs on every general library shelf in the country, but then, I'm a patriot! --Robert Skimin, Major, USA (Ret.)

Classic American stories

I reviewed this book for the US Army Historical Foundation. I found the book to be a great read. One that I couldn't put down once I started. It should be within the styles of Tom Brokaw's Greatest Generation series and books also written by Stephen Ambrose. The book provides an underlying answer to the "old age" question, "Where are our Heroes of today?". Given examples of even today's heroes clear cut everyday people the book proves it's case that heroes walk among us and not only in a military uniform.

Footprints of Heroes

Bob Skimin has undertaken the herculean task of presenting us with vignettes of heroes throughout America's history. He does this with expertise and a deft touch, to leave us with memories of how ordinary (and not so ordinary) men (and women)have transcended their mortal limits and performed courageous deeds. No matter your race, creed, sex, family upbringing, or a host of other factors which might seem to have an effect on bravery, this book will grab your attention and inspire you with stories of heroes from all walks of life and at varied times in our Nation's history. I give this book a max rating...you won't be disappointed.
