Informative, irrerevant, incisive

Or something like that. Unlike the previous reviewer, I don't know one of the authors of this book and am not getting a piece of the book sales. Even so, I bought it immediately when I saw the title. I enjoyed the Baseball Uncyclopedia with its factoids and humorous debunking of famous rumors. I realized this book had to be pretty similar and it was. Highly entertaining read. Now I saw this copy in mid January after the regular season was over. It still is a great read for "football junkies" like me who go into depression when the season is finally over. This book is full of trick questions, famous rumors forever debunked, and strong opinions. I know that if I knew the authors, we would argue..er discuss many of the points raised here. Oh and FYI, Municipal Stadium in Cleveland was built under the mistaken idea that if they built it, the Olympic Committee would have held the 1932 Olympics in Cleveland, not Los Angeles.

Addicting recreational read!

In the interest of full disclosure, I bought this book because I know Adam Hoff, one of the authors. $15 is a little bit of an investment, though, so truth be told I bought it more because I always enjoy hearing his unique thoughts on sports and less because of the $0.15 cut he'll receive. That may explain why I bought it, but there is only one way to explain why, exactly 24 hours after opening it, I've probably logged at least 4 hours reading it - it's simply a really entertaining book. Written in an irreverent, informative style, it contains dozens (if not hundreds) of short (2-3 pages at most) entries explaining, debating, and poking fun at some of the more interesting angles on professional and college football. With the season about to start next week, it makes the perfect TV companion - the entries are enough to keep you fully entertained during commercial breaks (which they did for me during last night's Olympic coverage), and are just engaging enough to keep you reading even after the televised action comes back - be sure to keep the Tivo remote nearby to hit "pause", as you'll probably get sucked in to the book more often than you'd anticipate.
