Practical, useful and fun

Since I purchased and read this book, I have referred to it often to make some sense of the choices I make when grocery shopping or preparing a snack or meal. I'm even thinking twice when I eat out. The first chapter sifts through many of the random facts we are inundated with in our own health care and organizes them once and for all. I'm thinking every doctor's office should have the first chapter available on its own. The author believes that food should be the resource for healthfulness rather than supplements. That fact alone is going to be much easier on my stomach. Usually I see a collection of recipes and think about trying maybe 10%. Not so in this book. Many of the recipes incorporate foods I currently enjoy and look really appealing. Most are easy, but some are going to be fun to accomplish more skills for those who like a little flair. The menu plan poses the same issues for me as most menu plans I've seen. Purchasing all the products to follow the menu plan would be great but impractical. I am a very structured person who follows a routine. I like the same breakfast everyday, slight variety at a good sized lunch and any variety at dinner. I'm hoping that using two or three of the breakfasts, same with the lunches, and a tasty healthier dinner following the guidelines and balancing out the day's intake and incorporating more dark green vegetables will be effective. I'm also seeing no problem incorporating these choices in the Weight Watchers points program.

Entertaining

I enjoy reading books regarding current nutritional findings. I felt this book was very well thought out and put together. The information was extremely valuable for me to take my current understanding of nutritional data to the next level.

Book Review

This book was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to know what foods work well together for the maximum health benefit. It not only addressed many health issues but also included wonderful recipes for encorporating the information in everyday life.

Food Snynergy is good buy

I found Iuse this book in many ways: as a reference for food sources of vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients (those compounds found in fruits, vegetables, and grains that provide health benefits), as a cookbook, or chapter by chapter to overhaul one meal or your entire diet. I found Magee's writing style to be inspirational. I like the fact that Magee anchors her concepts by focusing on the research into foods and nutrients that fight the "big four" chronic diseases that strike Americans: heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer. This book provides guidance on how to eat for prevention or treatment of disease and arm you with the tools to select food combinations that can keep you healthy. The book is loaded with tips on cooking, incorporating more whole foods into your diet, tips for eating more whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, as well as many easy to make recipes. The appendices include the top food sources of nutrients and a 1500-calorie meal plan for those who want to lose weight. This book presents a unique approach to getting the most out of the foods you eat.

Pleasantly suprised.

This book gives you the breakdown of everything you read in the news headlines regarding the whats and whys of vitamins and minerals and how they work together in your body to either help or hurt you. I never felt preached to by some 'doc' type. Written with the layman in mind. Very informative... So much so you may change the way you eat after this read!
