Beer is a Starch

Who knew beer was a starch? Not me! Like many of the other reviewers, I came into food combining through the Marilu Henner, Total Health Makeover plan. Marilu's books are great but they don't provide enough detail about classifying produce. For instance, I wanted to eat a sweet potato with a protein and checked Marilu's book to make sure that sweet potatoes were veggies. Sweet potatoes? Not listed. I originally ordered Kathryn Marsden's book to fill in the gaps for the missing food items but wound up learning more than just how to classify produce. In addition to including and classifying every fruit or veggie known to man, it's also small enough that I can carry it in my purse for quick reference in restaurants. Now, I know not to drink beer with fish....and in case you're wondering, sweet potatoes are starches!

An uncomplicated explanation

Every book I have ever bought that refered to food combining contained hundreds of pages of small print. Not very inviting and difficult to read and understand. This book clarifies and explains the simple rationals and concepts. I'm trying to give this way of eating a good try, but I do not want to pull out a book that looks like War and Peace every time I eat something. This is so easy to refer to and transport around with me, until I know what I am doing.

Best of the Food Combination Diet Books!

It's short and sweet!! Of the food combination books that I've purchased, this is the one I shall start using.. Why? Because I found the other books were too restrictive, and I knew that I would eventually give up! You really don't need to know much to be on the food combination diet, just don't mix protein with starch, eat lots of veggies, and fruit by itself. This books keeps it simple and encourages you not to beat yourself over the head if you are not perfect, with no guilt. You don't need to buy a thick book on food combining with fantastic recipes.. just cook the food you like. I've tried the protein diet.. it worked great but I gained ALL the weight right back in 2 months. Good Luck!

short, concise book intro to food combining

This is a short, consise book that walks you through the rules and reasoning of food combining. You can read it in one setting. The whole book is layed out very nicely, and the pictures and charts are colorful and pleasant to look at. You can pop this book in your purse or bag when you go shopping. I've read Marilu Henner's book and I was confused about when to use soy to make a "complete protein" out of a meal of say, fish and rice, which is considered improper food combining. This book explained soy and other legumes and their role in food combining.

Outstanding and Easy to understand!!

I read the Zone Diet and found it very complicated. But, I knew that I was on to something. When I got this book,I read this book in one sitting and in only 57 pages, all was crystal clear. How to do it and WHY to do it. My mother is 80 and has been plagued by stomach disorders for so long. Too many years of eating everything together was wreaking havoc with her digestion and therefore, her well being. I asked her to try this way of eating for just two days. On the second day, she noticed a remarkable change in how she felt...no more cramping or sour stomach! She felt that she could think more clearly and her fatigue was disappearing. If anyone wants to understand food combining in a nutshell, this is the BEST book to start with. It will set the stage and give you a foundation to understand all the other ones out there which go into more detail.
