Nettl is one of the foremost ethnomusicologists in the U.S., perhaps the world. If that is your interest, Nettl's work (generally) has to be at the top of your A List, bar none. If you are a performer, this book may help with perspective, perhaps. But if you are looking for help finding the right pitch or meter, look for recordings listed in the extensive discography at the end of each chapter. Or do some field work.
