Helpful and informative guide for NP vacation planning

As a big fan of day hikes in national parks, there are few books in my library I've turned to more than this book. It's extremely user-friendly for planning which hikes to take, and for the hike itself, of course. After the title for each hike, there's a very brief description with the area of the park in question, i.e. "Tioga Road area, Yosemite NP, A sparkling cataract on the Tuolumne River." Then it lists the distance in miles and in time needed to complete the hike, the difficulty level on a 5-point scale, the starting elevation, the change in elevation during the hike, the crowd level, which are the best months for the hike, and finally a 5-point rating scale (well, she doesn't actually list any 1-star hikes). Of course, there's a detailed itinerary of the hikes following the brief summary. Included are not only all of the state's national parks (including Channel Islands), but also the most popular national monuments: Lava Beds, Point Reyes, Muir Woods, Pinnacles, Mojave, and Cabrillo. I'm sad to see that there's no new edition, but if you'll be visiting more than 2 California national parks in the future, it's worth getting this used. At 550 pages, it's not too big to take along, although I'll usually just photocopy the pages to take on the hike(s) I'll be going on.
