To start with I have to admit that I've been there, seen that, done that. I was 32 when my cancer diagnosis came in, and like Jan, it was Hodgkin's Lymphoma so this book struck me pretty close to home. Maybe that's why I forgive it some of it's flaws, and forgive the main character for being a bit of a ditz sometimes, because this is a book I could give to someone and say "This is what it was mostly like". Jan is shallow and has things happening to her that she doesn't understand. It's easy to initially dismiss the symptoms of Hodgkins, unless you're like me and you get more obvious symptoms. This is her story about dealing with the illness and dealing with what it does to her and her friends. It's chick-lit so you can't really expect much from it, but it's also pretty true to life and echoed some of my experiences very well.
