First Time Buyer of a Graphic/Comic Book

After discovering Kazu Kibuishi's comic, Copper, I found out that there was a book he was editing called Flight and that the second volume was coming out soon. About six months later I was at a Barnes and Noble and I remembered that they were distributing the Flight books. I picked one up, my first graphic book of anything I've ever bought, and I love it. Its a joy to see stories this interesting with art so beautiful. The art is the main reason I bought it because, but the stories stand on their own. Kazu's own entry in the book is a rather warming tale involving a young girl and boy who are facing seperation. Other stories involve cities built on hovering tram systems, planes, trains (in beautiful colored pencil, no less), and bicycles. Expect monsters, stories without dialogue, robots, and Flight. Beautiful and meaningful, I recommend this book to anyone who loves comics and maybe grew up with the art of Bill Watersons' Calvin and Hobbes, as well as anyone who has ever secretly wished that books for adults had vibrant illustrations to enjoy along with the text.

First class art work, a style for everyone.

I was intrigued by the cover in the book store so I decided to pick it up. Wow, was I ever impressed. I used to be into comic books and art in general while in high school, but never in my wildest dreams would I have envisioned what the medium would become. Yes, I am getting old and no, I haven't been keeping up with comics. So, there may be better out there but not with so many different styles: One in pastel, one comp. generated, another in oils, and even a more traditional pen and ink section (all executed exquisitely). If you are interested in finding out what can be accomplished stylistically and artistically in the world of graphic novels look no further. I can't wait to find volume two.
