'an amazing ride'

Today I received "Whitewater Rendezvous" and "Force of Nature"... and my copy of "Hunter's Pursuit" is on it's way - hopefully quickly, because I want to read it first. So, how's that for a hint of what I think of it?! "Flight Risk" took me by surprise and I think it's fantastic. I read it in a little over a week because I had to take some (lengthy) breaks when the story pushed a few too many buttons and became too recognizable. All the characters were believable, especially Blayne and Alexi. I felt concern, happiness and excitement for Blayne and was (insanely?) jealous of her for at least a week after finishing the book. It was exciting, comforting and very frustrating to discover that Alexi is my 'dream' gal. Their conversations were audible in the peace of my living room with their content staying with me for hours. The world created by Kim is so visual that it's almost like watching a movie and, although I'd love to see it on a screen, I cannot imagine that a film would come close to the images evoked by the book. Every little detail accounted for, described perfectly and tangibly - a sensory trip. "Flight Risk" was an amazing ride, and for me also an intensely emotional one. A great introduction into this genre. I am looking forward to the next one... every word, image, emotion, taste and feel of it!

Like a Fine Wine... Baldwin Keeps Getting Better and Better

Kim Baldwin gets better with every book she writes. From `Whitewater Rendezvous' to `Hunter's Pursuit,' I have enjoyed everything published by Baldwin and am continually amazed that she raises the proverbial bar with each new novel. `Flight Risk' is no exception. Here, Baldwin introduces the characters of Blayne Keller, a travel agent, and Alexi Nikolos, a Marshall in the Federal Witness Protection Program (WITSEC). Blayne unwittingly witnesses a mafia murder and is able to identify the shooter - a high-ranking mob officer. As the Feds build their case, Blayne's life is in danger so they place her in protective custody. In the meantime, they also place her best friend and business associate, as well as the other woman's father, in protective custody as well. The only problem is there is a leak in the program and Blayne's life is seriously threatened by the bad guys. The scariest part for Blayne is she's not really sure who the `bad guys' really are. En route to a safe house, Blayne's plane is attacked by a suitcase bomb and the agent escorting her is killed. In the chaos, Alexi makes herself known to the shaken woman who doesn't know what to believe. Scared beyond belief, Blayne decides to take her fate in her own hands and runs. Unfortunately, or not, she underestimates Alexi's skills and determination to do her job. In the meantime, these women begin to move past their immediate fear and distrust to discover an undeniable passion for each other. Saying more would give away too much about the classiness and humor of this story. It's full of angst, passion, and excitement and is one of the best books I've read in a long time. Do yourself a favor and grab this one quick. Clear your calendar and get comfortable in your favorite reading spot. Once you start on the first page, you won't want to stop until you close the back cover.

Best Baldwin Book to Date

With each new book Kim Baldwin improves her craft and her storytelling. Flight Risk, her newest novel, has heated action and vibrant depictions that make the reader feel as though she was right in the middle of the story. The author sustains the heightened suspense throughout the book, keeping our heart racing. Travel agent Blayne Keller witnesses a mob hit, and the mafia is trying to eliminate her so she will not testify. The local FBI in Chicago is charged with shielding her until she goes into the witness protection program, but there is a leak somewhere on the inside, and Blayne's life is clearly in danger. Beautiful elusive Alexi Nikolos, a WITSEC inspector, comes out of forced retirement to protect Blayne. Their first meeting is under unusual circumstances when the airplane they are both traveling on has a bomb on board that blows a big hole in the side. This event really kicks the novel into high gear. Flight Risk is fast moving with crisp dialogue, and effective use of the characters' thoughts and emotions, and this reviewer could not put the book down. The author definitely did her background research because the criminal procedures are authentic and believable. As an added bonus, Baldwin builds sexual tension between the two main protagonists, but since Alexi takes her job of protecting Blayne seriously, we are kept on edge for most of the book. Baldwin, not known for highly erotic scenes in her romances, does an excellent job of engaging all of the reader's senses with minimal graphic language. Baldwin outdid herself with Flight Risk. In this reviewer's opinion, it is her best storytelling to date. I highly recommend this thrilling story.

What a trip!!!

Explosions, chases, secrets, revenge and the list goes on. It's been a long time since I've read a book that I just couldn't put down. From plot to characters, I couldn't let go because it wouldn't let me go. Alexi Nikolos and Blayne Keller stayed with me long after I had finished reading this non stop cross country/Atlantic adventure. Not only because they are in various ways,so refreshingly new but also because they weren't kidding in the blurb when they wrote " the sparks are flying faster than the bullets aimed at their heads". Their need for survival is as strong as their attraction to each other. Alexi's objective is to keep Blayne alive so she tries her best to stay seemingly detached and focused by fighting temptation. Blayne however is doing very little to help Alexi maintain that focus. Great new characters, action packed plot and heated temptations make it the most enjoyable book I've read in a long time. A must read for all fans of the genre.

Excellent ! Non-stop action !

A wonderful fast paced novel. The chapters fly by - I had to fight to keep from skimming ahead to find out what happened next. 39 year old Alexi had me at Hello. Alexi is a super interesting Jane Bond type. Just as smooth, mysterious and attractive but more caring and human. 30 year old Blayne is fighter every step of the way. Blayne has an incredible journey the entire novel. By the end of the first chapters I guarantee she does not look at petty larceny the same way she did in the past. This is a rollercoaster road trip across states, borders and oceans. A slam bang finish with sexual heat not far from the surface, and often lighting on fire, every step of the way. from the publisher's web site - For Blayne Keller, being in the wrong place at the wrong time just might turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to her--once she stops running for her life. A typical day at a Chicago travel agency turns deadly when Blayne witnesses a mafia murder. Overnight, her life is turned upside down and she is thrust into WITSEC, the Federal Witness Protection Program. But the mob is determined to keep her from testifying and has a fed on its payroll leaking information about her every move. Only Alexi Nikolos, an enigmatic WITSEC Inspector with an agenda of her own, can keep Blayne alive, and it's not an easy task when the sparks between them are flying faster than the bullets aimed at their heads.
