I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys literary gossip and anecdotes. Myrick Land's book is a chronological look at great literary feuds through the ages, from Dr. Johnson and Lord Chesterfield to Tom Wolfe and The New Yorker. This book is full of trivia and gives tantalizing behind-the-scenes glimpses of literary life. I particularly enjoyed the chapter on Nabokov and Edmund Wilson, as well as the chapter on Norman Mailer and his wholesale denunciation of his peers. This is the 1983 revised edition.
