...and I cried. I enjoyed this glimpse of the Staat family's lives, but this book is more than just a collection of nice anecdotes. It is thought provoking and prompts the reader to care more, do better, and think less of self and more of others... and to find the divine in the everyday.
Wisdom Shared

Finding Liberty is a wonderful book. Blaine Staat shares his wisdom and his heart with readers in a way that is enjoyably heart touching and often humorous. He makes me want to not only visit Liberty but to find a "Liberty" of my own.

Finding Liberty by Blaine Staat is an excellent book that will definitely remain in my collection of favorites. Each story is simple and entertaining yet out of them comes a profound wisdom that compels the reader to think deeper about the important things in life. Things like spending time with your children, marriage, the economy and how we spend money, to what it really means to walk the walk. I originally thought this book would be geared more to men- but after reading it I think this book is one everyone should read. I actually think this book should be required reading for every Christian. Mr. Staat has a gift and I for one and glad he is using it. I can't wait for his next book- What So Proudly We Hailed comes out this spring.
Excellent reading!

This collection of essays about family and what it's like to be a husband, father, and Christian are thoughtfully written and entertaining. Instead of the usual "laugh-a-minute" essay compilations that one often finds in a collection of Christian essays, Staat has written poignant, though-provoking pieces with a dash of humor. Reading them is like visiting with a beloved friend while he entertains you with stories of his life. His faith and love for his family shine on each page. I would heartily recommend this book. The short chapters, each containing a different topic, are perfect for the man in your life who might not enjoy sitting down to read for hours at a time. But, don't think the book is just for men. I've enjoyed it a great deal!
Finding Liberty - a breath of fresh air

Finding Liberty After having read the articles in "Making it Home Magazine," I knew that Blaine Staat needed to incorporate these stories into book form. A man may not want to sit down and read a "ladies'" magazine, but there is nothing "feminine" about sitting down and reading a book adorned with the American flag, entitled "Finding Liberty." Blaine is a very creative writer. Though he says up front that he is not a "professional" writer, he does know how to weave the thread of a story. This collection of stories will take you from laughing out loud on one page, to choking up on the next as your heart cracks from a simple "truth." I would find myself nodding my head and smiling, especially the story about learning to parent your own way....like not making your children eat things you KNOW they hate. "Mashed Potatoes." Need I say more? Then I would find myself motivated to do better and more, both as a parent and a Christian. Whether it be the simple importance of a camping adventure in the back yard with your son, or the heaviness of "Big Brother" breathing down our necks, this book will make you think. Though I am a "Mom", I think this is a book that will especially appeal to "Dads" as well. Excellent book Mr. Staat. I look forward to your next.
