I ordered this book as "used" but to me the book looks and feels brand new. Couldn't be happier!

I Lost My Breath

I Lost My BreathThis is an amazing book. I absolutely love it. My son gave it to me as a gift a couple of years ago. I read it, learned a lot, or so I thought, and put it back on the shelf. In February I was diagnosed with breast cancer and the first book I reached for was "Find A Quiet Corner." I was so stressed out I had actually forgotten how to breathe properly and to relax. I read Nancy's book once again and started focusing on my breath whenever I was under stress - which was and still is quite often. Having to undergo two surgeries for cancer, I had made up my mind beforehand that I was going to breathe my way into and out of them. When they wheeled me into the operating room I was concentrating on my breath, as they put the mask over my face and the surgeon placed his hand over mine to comfort me, my fear was gone. Upon awakening my first thought was to breathe, and breathe, and to breathe some more - as Nancy said in her book. Even now as I am going through my radiation treatments, my focus is in entirely on my breath - with healing energy coming in and cancer cells going out. Every now and then, when I focus for a minute before I find my "Quiet Corner," I still find myself with my hands clenched, and nails digging into my skin. I remember Nancy's book and wonderful words as I start paying attention to my breathing once again and begin to relax and shed my stress. This is one of my favorite books. I keep it nearby so I can pick it up and read a page or two at anytime. I strongly recommend this book to anyone. It will change your life. It certainly changed mine. Thank you Nancy, for teaching me how to breathe once again and for this wonderful book.

A purse-size bit of quiet.

Whenever I am stressed, blue, feeling lost and forgotten, I always look for comfort in a book -- I just KNOW if I look hard enough and send my chaotic thoughts into the cosmos, I'll find what I need. And I did, or rather, the book found me. I came across the book, "Find A Quiet Corner", after leaving a very stressful staff meeting - my brain so scrambled I could not even focus my eyes let alone my thoughts. It was the only copy on hand and was tucked in (out of place) between other larger books on the bottom row - but find me it did. I love the suggestions it provides - each little chapter like a sip of nectar. It was balm to my soul. I strongly recommend this little book, along with a cup of tea, for what ails you.

Finding space in one's life for reflection and rejuvenation

Nancy O'Hara's approach to what might be called spiritual or metaphysical matters is totally a common-sense no-frills one. She guides us through the causes of stress and distraction in our daily lives and suggests ways to find the time and to create the space in which to quietly come to terms with ourselves. Beautifully written and very accessible.
