The comparative export performance of India, on the whole, was not satisfactory. The share of India in the total world exports fell from about 2 per cent in 1950 to 0.4 per cent in 1980. Since the mid eighties, there has, however, been some improvement. In 2012 it was 0.8 per cent and the target set by the Ministry of Commerce is one per cent by 2017.
