This is the second book of Fill your watercolors with light by Mr. Roycraft.

I read this book first. . . It is the second book. Mr. Roycraft is a tremendously talented artist! His paintings truly glow! He claims to be an intuitive painter. He starts out with taking paint chips and sprinkling them on the paper, drawing around them, and then masking the areas that he wants to be white. Then he pours Winsor yellow around the light source, and once that is dry, he pours Winsor red around the yellow. In the shadow areas he pours a mixture of blues. Once that is dry, he spatters on paint, spritzes it, and puts in some salt. He does negative painting and lifting paints. . . This is not a book for beginners or timid. I appreciated the photos of what he does at workshops at the back of the book. You can almost understand what he is doing. . . . Then I realized that he had written another book, and that I had it as well, but hadn't read it yet. . . The first book should be read first. . . It makes the second book a little easier to understand, although the first book doesn't talk about the paint chips. . . I wish that I could have taken one of his classes and seen in person what he did, because his artwork is amazing!

Awesome book!

Full of good information, step by step demos. How to use masking and when, composition and layout. This is different from other books I have read and I really like it. Great addition to my art reference books.

Fill your Watercolors with Natures Light

I bought this volume after I read it from my public Library. I paint and found it to be an invaluable resource. It has changed the way I look at painting and strongly influenced my painting technique. I would recommend it to anyone that paints or wants to learn how.

Fill Your Watercolors with Nature's Light-Roycroft

These techniques are nothing short of fantastic!

I love these books by Roycraft. If you love painting landscape or natural subjects, you cannot go wrong reading this book. Roycraft's techniques look simple (a lot of splashing going on) but they are controlled and well thought out. If you love floral painting you should not miss his examples here of a peony and an iris. JUST Breathtaking. I picked up so many ideas from this book. Not only are Roycraft's paintings beautiful to see, he knows how to communicate his techniques incredibly well. I'm glad I found this watercolor artist's books.

A power tool for watercolorists

Having read "enough" art technique books, I have learned that until one gets "down and dirty" trying out what is discussed in the book, then one does not actually spend the money wisely (on the book). The same for this book. Beautiful artwork by the author. Did I say beautiful? No, BREATHTAKING, rather. However, to be able to generate beautiful artworks, the readers will need the following:- An ability to SEE (light, dark, positive and negative space)- Follow instructions from the book (which is PROBABLY the easy part, since it is rather well-written)- A decent craftsmanship to finesse the final painting after the "mask and pour paints" phase of the process.Briefly, I would think this is a power tool for watercolorists. How great the final products turn out to be will depend on the aforementioned factors.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
