Fifteen Love

Will and Mia make more mistakes on their path toward love than Shakespeare characters. FIFTEEN LOVE will drive readers crazy with its near misses and crossed signals. There is even friend and family interference to keep the two main characters apart. FIFTEEN LOVE provides a good picture of a boy's point of view about crushes and dating, even if the girl's side is less interesting. The book flip-flops between the two points of view, making them seem even further apart. Author Robert Corbet has a great male character in Will --- believable, vulnerable, human. But Mia is less likable. She does not seem like a three-dimensional girl with deep feelings. For example, Mia learns that her father is unfaithful. She commits an act of vandalism in retaliation, but the effect is muted. Sometimes minor characters steal the stage. At times, Will's brother Dave is more interesting than the two main characters. Dave becomes a paraplegic after hitting his head on the bottom of a swimming pool four years ago, at age 9. He and Will battle over things Will can do that Dave wants to do. Dave gets jealous over Will's social life and gets involved in the drama over Mia. There is no easy solution to this problem, and readers will care about how the two brothers sort through their relationship. Social misunderstandings happen to everyone, especially in high school. Readers may care enough about some characters to stick it out to the end through this tangled story, but it's a bumpy ride. --- Reviewed by Amy Alessio

An amazing book

"Fifteen Love," by Robert Corbet was a great book. I enjoyed every thing that was in it, from the tearful tragedies to the jokes and the comedy. Once I started to read it, I couldn't put it down. The way Corbet blends humor with sadness, confusion with sanity is just remarkable. This is a story of two teenagers who like each other, but are confused and hurt by the world around them, and don't feel ready for many things yet. As the book starts, it gives Mia's and Will's thoughts, formed like a diary. The reader can feel the heaviness of the troubles in their families. Mia's dad is having an affair and she doesn't want anybody to find out. Will's brother is in a wheelchair, and his parents are pressuring Will to become a tennis star. Mia's friends are the two most popular girls in school and yet she is so different from them. Will is lonely and confused with his life. Later, Will invites Mia to a tennis match where he will be playing, just as friends, but he hopes for something more. Mia doesn't feel ready for a boyfriend, but she does like WIll, and is not sure of herself. She arrives, but has forgotten her glasses and can't see that he is on the tennis court, so she is annoyed and thought that he stood her up. She goes home, but on the way, she sprains her ankle. The next morning at school it's announced that Will has won his state championship tennis match and is a tennis star. He becomes popular and Mia thinks he is immature and shallow like all the other boys. After many run-ins with each other, they stop talking to each other for a while, and Mia's friend, Vanessa goes after Will. Since she's popular and he wants to get Mia jealous, Will and Vanessa go to a party together. Mia goes too, and sees them together. She is very depressed and sad. Later, Mia and Will run into each other outside of school, and finally have a long talk. It is a remarkable book and touches the heart of anyone who has experienced those things, and most have. I recommend it to anyone who is confused, needs to relive moments of his or her coming of age, or anyone who needs a good book.

How to Win Love

Will and Mia are two seperate people that perhaps fate brought together. Throughout their journey finding each other through love, mistakes and problems occure, including friends and family getting involved. Fifteen Love gives and wants to share the credible story of a girl and a boy finding true love and how much they have to go through to recieve that special feeling. This books describes the clear understanding of a boy's point of view on girls and a girl's point of view on a boy. Boys would talk about the girl they are falling for or sex, while the girl talk about what guys expect from them and about "boy trouble." Throughtout the book, Robert Corbet goes back and forth to Mia and then Will on how both see how the vibe of love grows between them two. Robert Corbet creates his story with two opposite characters. Will being the humble, ordinary, young boy, while Mia on the other hand is an adventureous girl who is not afraid to find out what is really happening. Will is the kind of guy that would strive to get what he wants and that is Mia and keeps his promise to his father for playing extra hard in tennis for the behalf of his brother Dave. Mia goes on and starts making the first impression and move by talkin to Will to start their relationship. Also, when she finds out one day, she saw her father in the car with a blonde nurse with red lipstick going back to the house to pick up his doctor equipment. Mia and Will are the main characters within this stroy, but at some points, other characters such as Vannessa with all her boy trouble or Dave can take charge of the story and become more interesting. Vannessa is always involved with boys in some what way as two guys fighting for her or she doesn't know what to do with a boy. With Dave, he became disabled at an early age of nine diving in a pool and hiting his head. Now he is in a wheel chair missing all the fun his brother is experienceing and becomes jealous. The jealousy becomes a problem involving the Will and Mia and this is when the drama begins. Problems always occure, but what can resolve this? The relationship between this two brothers are to be found, finding the solution. There are always problems and obstacles in life and especially at a time of teenage years. At this age, one most be prepard and find the solution to every problem in one's way. Life is balanced and there are going to be bumbs and hills to climb over. Readers will fall in love with this book and will learn that life is all about striving to the end and not giving up, including how to win love.word count:483

GREAT BOOK!

I abosolutely LOVED this book. It is so great! I can't believe I'm the first person to review it! Its about this guy Will who is into tennis because his family is and his little brother (who was a natural pro) had an accident and can't walk who is into this girl, Mia who is friends with the most popular girl in school Vanessa and Renata, she is kind of into Will too but won't admit it because she doesn't feel ready for a boyfriend. The summary really makes you think that it's all about Mia's dad's affair but its really not, like if you read the back of the book, there's like nothing about the affair. Have I mentioned that this book is REALLY great????? thinking about buying or reading it? THINK NO MORE READ IT! BUY IT! You won't regret it!!!
