Excellent Tarot Guidebook

I purchased the Feng Shui Tarot Deck a few years before I purchased this book. The deck uses animals as suit symbols, so I can say that I could not make heads or tails of this deck. The deck was only my 2nd Tarot deck (I have over 60 now), and I knew nothing about the Chinese philosophy Feng Shui. I accidentally learned about the book and bought it. I am very glad that I did so. This book is a great guidebook for its companion deck, as well as a great guidebook for studying Tarot in general. Each of the cards is discussed in depth, and the discussions are on a few points in interpreting each card, even reversals. Insights on how to interpret card combinations in a spread are also given. Each card is discussed based on Tarot aspects and Feng Shui aspects. A little I Ching, another ancient Chinese philosophy, is thrown in for good measure. A brief explanation of Feng Shui is set forth, which was helpful, because I had no prior knowledge of what it is about. Truthfully, I found it difficult to understand the relationship between Tarot and Feng Shui, especially in the Majors and Court cards. I got somewhat of an understanding of it in the pip cards; they are fully illustrated. If you have the deck, I recommend that you get this book, to help you understand the deck. In fact, I recommend it to all interested in Tarot, as a great guidebook. I also recommend the deck,; it is beautifully illustrated and the book gives no hint as to the beautiful coloration of the deck.

Great Deck Companion

Depending on how you read tarot, you might want to seriously consider buying this book to go along with the Feng Shui Tarot deck. In the beginning, there is a nice introduction which briefly covers seasoning a deck, making a spread, how to store your cards, etc. In the Appendix there is a layout for the Celtic Cross spread, but there are no other spreads included. The back also contains a "Daily Record Book" so that you can keep track of your readings, which the book suggests is very helpful when you're first starting out. I bought this book to go along with the cards I purchased, as the Feng Shui Deck uses Red Phoenix, White Tiger, Black Tortoise, and Green Dragon, instead of Cups, Swords, Wands, Pentacles. Like other books that accompany a deck, this book gives an intro to understanding the major and minor arcana, the themes of the suits, and using cards for verification. With the exception of only having one spread layout, this book actually has MORE information than the one that accompanied my first deck of tarot cards. It does not show an association between the different cards and zodiac signs or physical characteristics, which is not unusual for a book that is for a specific deck. And so, if you're just starting out I would recommend buying a general tarot book in addition to this one. This book is for a specific deck. There is a nice little section which discusses feng shui in relation to the deck... the bagua, directions, and the elements and their relationships. If you're not familiar with feng shui, don't worry about what I just said. This book makes understanding its relationship with the cards rather easy. Even if you have been reading tarot for a while, I would still recommend having this book if you've purchased or are thinking of buying the Feng Shui deck.
