Reviewed by Olivera Baumgartner-Jackson for Reader Views (4/07) Dr. Jes T.Y. Lim's "Feng Shui & Your Health: A Guide to High Vitality" may seem very intimidating at first glance. It is a hefty book of nearly 300 pages, and opening it at random one could easily get scared of the numerous diagrams and tables within. If you are not familiar with Feng Shui - which is also my case - you might also be afraid that all of the lingo will be too difficult to understand and remember. Well, do not be afraid and just delve in. Dr. Lim's book deals with feng shui in an approachable manner. He starts with an explanation of feng shui and its history; then he continues with a very interesting chapter on the evolution of the human living space. After having introduced the reader to those basics, Dr. Lim introduces the ideas of feng shui in our daily lives as well as the connections between bad feng shui and diseases. These introductory sections are followed by more explanations of terms and elements of feng shui. The subsequent chapters deal with location and elements of one's house and how to create spaces with positive energy and energy flow; or in the case where such a goal can not be totally achieved, how to remedy the existing conditions. Each chapter is easily understandable and the accompanying drawings are very helpful in understanding the exact positioning of the elements Dr. Lim is describing in his text. The main objectives of his teachings are protecting and improving one's health, increasing the positive energy in one's home and neutralizing harmful energies. I was pleasantly surprised by how simple and logical his approach seems to be and how uncomplicated many of the remedies for negative configurations turned out to be. In many cases it would be enough to add a plant, a ribbon, wind chimes or something equally undemanding to remedy the unfavorable configuration of a room in your house. If the reader were to decide that feng shui as described is something they would like to learn about even more, there is a very comprehensive section on where to look for feng shui courses and contacts, as well as an extensive bibliography for further reading. This section can be found at the very end of the book. I found Dr. Lim's book easily readable and engaging. I am more than willing to try at least some of the suggested remedies for the trouble spots in my home, and I am pretty certain that most readers would find this to be a quite useful addition to their home library. I recommend "Feng Shui & Your Health: A Guide to High Vitality" to all readers, particularly those who are health conscious and prefer holistic approach to their live
Excellent and practical guide to using feng shui

I bought this book in preparation for working with a feng shui consultant on a house I had already bought. It streamlined our working process immensely. You could certainly use it alone, but it does not cover the cleansing rituals (salt, clapping) or any of the adjuncts to them (washing walls, ceilings, and floors with a mix of aromatics, water, and vinegar or bleach) that were very helpful in purging the house. It's not particularly good on ways to compensate for "missing" areas, although it's excellent on identifying them. No book will be perfect, but this one is extremely good. I learned a tremendous amount fr6m it, and will keep it as a reference. Highly recommended.
