Not a bad book

The book is for my Feminism theory class. Seriously, there are some very good articles like Sojourner Truth's, Ain't I a woman, Bouvoir's famous article, and so on. Fredrick Douglass' article was also included.
My go-to feminist theory guide

This was my first women's studies textbook. Now, ten years later after receiving a B.A. in wmst and weeks away from an M.A., I still find myself going back to this book. The way it breaks down the major debates in wmst into simple categories is fantastic for new wmst students, and I have copied this section for members of my wmst cohort that entered the program without a wmst B.A. The book is very well organized and indexed. As a librarian I very much appreciate this. I TA'd for an intro course that used another wmst reader, Women's Lives: Multicultural Perspectives by Gwyn Kirk and Margo Okazawa-Rey, and appreciate the inclusion of various types of material (essays, poetry), but I greatly prefer this text over that one. It's a great survey of the key issues and texts in feminist theory. It familiarizes readers with the canon of wmst, and through careful editing highlights the key points of the major texts. I'm looking forward to checking out the new edition coming out this year.

This is an exceptional reader that is divided into short segments/articles. It is an excellent overview of the development of feminist thought and an essential learning tool for students involved in Women's Studies classes.

Essential reading for everyone and anyone intrested in the history of women's struggles throughout American History. A bit above others because it is not homogenized as white voices only, but actually includes voices of women of color.
