Book Overview

In 1987, Rita, newly divorced, set out to live her dream. She sold all her possessions and became a nomad. She wrote a book about her ongoing journey and, in 2001, insisted on putting her personal e-mail address in the last chapter-against all advice. It turned out to be a fortuitous decision. She has met thousands of readers, stayed in their homes, and sat around kitchen tables sharing stories and food and laughter. In this essay collection, Gelman...

Undownputtable!

I am so in love with this book! I am normally very busy and don't get much time to read in the evenings or too tired to read, but with this book - it's a love affair! It's like going to all the places described in the book, the story is so easy to follow, it's well written and I hope there are more to come! If you enjoyed Eat, Pray and Love you'd love this one. My favorite part so far is Indonesia, I cannot wait to go and experience the country for myself!

For Anyone with Wanderlust

A vicarious ride for those dreaming about travel, with some fascinating recipes to whet your appetite. Each essay of this anthology was written by someone allowing wanderlust to take the lead. A highly enjoyable read.

A tribute to our shared humanity.

Rita Golden Gelman hasn't had a permanent address since 1987. Her popular memoir "Tales of a Female Nomad" is about her nomadic life traveling around the world. She explains, "I no longer wanted to live in one tiny dot on the giant map of the world. I wanted to explore, to adventure, to connect with the diversity of life on earth." "Female Nomad and Friends: Tales of Breaking Free and Breaking Bread Around the World" is a collection of stories and recipes from over forty authors. They are writers who are willing to take risks, break rules and face the unknown. Rita said she chose the stories with the most "heart" where the writer's soul shines through the words. The poetic writing of each story will make you smile, laugh or cry. They are inspiring, vibrant, poignant and alive. The tales take place in many countries: India, Thailand, Ghana, Brazil, Peru, Israel, Guatamala, Bolivia, Iraq, France, Malaysia, Vietnam, the South Pacific, Uganda, Greece, Paraguay, Turkey, Mexico, the Seychelles, Romany, the Bahamas and North America. "Female Nomad and Friends" is a tribute to our shared humanity. It's a celebration of the diversity, joy and wonder of cross cultural connecting. It could also send you off on your own adventure.

Thanks Female Nomad for a very special book

Female Nomad and Friends is a delightful book to savor, relish, enjoy, and pass on to a dear friend. Better yet, buy the friend a copy because the proceeds go to a worthy cause, a program to provide hope and education to slum children in India. This is a book to be read by anyone who is a traveler, not a tourist. The women, and a few men, who wrote these stories all found unique and special connections with those they met, often in unexpected places. The stories covered a wide gamete, from light hearted and amusing, to laugh-out-loud funny, to deeply moving and thought provoking. The recipes are a pleasant bonus. Buy this book, you'll be glad you did.
