Important Memoir

I purchased this book because we have many Native American children in our school and their experiences are not reflected in most of the books in our classroom library. While the girl in this book is from a Native Canadian tribe, her experiences in a residential school mirror the experiences of Natives in our country. Did you know these residential schools were operating as late as the 1980s?! This is a touching story about missing family, persistence in the face of ridicule, kindness in unexpected places and a girl who learns what is important to her.
