Good Father

When miltary school cadets sieze control of their academy, an alumni of the school, now a journalist, must find a way to defuse the situation.This book was the source for the movie "Taps" and its plot is defintely better than that of the movie.

"Psychological" Warfare

I first picked up "Father Sky" after seeing "Taps," the 1982 film starring Timothy Hutton, Sean Penn and Tom Cruise based on it. The book amazed me even more than the film did.Where the movie was an action film about loyalty, the book delves deeper into the pychology which created a loyalty for which people were willing to kill or die. In fact, they weren't even people, really. They were kids. The leader of the revolution (sparked when they tried to close the military school where the action takes place) is a mere 15 years old.Freeman takes us deep into his mind to try and understand not only what would possess a young man to take up arms, but he also examines the overall effect of a military academy, where the main purpose of teh upper classmen is to strip you of your own identity and replace it with a pre-ordained, approved version.All in all, a very quick read, which will have you asking questions all the way through. Even though it's not currently available, it's still worth getting if you have the chance.
