Good book

It has been a few years since I have read this book. I was going to recommend this book, and when I saw the rating, I thought it needed counterpoint. It is a good book. I have been on the journey of discovering of what it means to be a man as Christ intended me to be for about 15 years. I have read most of the authors mentioned in the other review, Robert Hicks (and got a lot through him too), John Eldredge, etc. Gordon Dalbey seems to be the most courageous. Far from the put downs in Robert Wynkoop's review, Gordon Dalbey expands on the transition from wounded warrior to mature man (using Hick's organization). It is the warrior who hasn't been wounded that is arrogant to think that all you have to do is suck it up. But Gordon Dalbey goes further into the heart of a son to see his father also as a son. It also inspired me to see my son as a possible future father, as well. Gordon Dalbey in this book or others has said that a real man is a man who is real. I love his candor and vulnerability. He can be strong, or weak, because he knows that he is loved. I have ached for that, and I know a lot of men also ache to know that they are loved as the really are. One other side note. I have been through some of the secular/new age men's events too. I am a Christian, but I saw God at work where men dealt in truth. Some men without Jesus are bold enough to face their wound, and ultimately realize that there is power in the wound as well. For the complete version of this idea (where truth is not just dealt with, but the person Who is Truth is embraced) you can read Gordon Dalbey's book, or go on to Dan B Allendar's Leading with a Limp: Take Full Advantage of Your Most Powerful Weakness. Great book. Honest author.
