Good medical mystery

I like this genre and this doctor did a good job. I hope he writes more. This story does hold your attention, which is a factor I always consider. The reader is not likely to completely figure out the ending by the tenth page as in many books now on the market.

From the dustjacket flap.......

Forensic pathologist Joanna Blalock and homicide detective Jake Sinclair return in this startling new medical thriller. Leonard Goldberg, a top Los Angeles physician, brings his doctor's insight and cutting-edge authenticity to the subject of genetic research, then gives it his trademark diabolical twist. A veteran seaman drowns within yards of his yacht. A Russian immigrant is shot dead while digging an illegal grave. A politician succumbs to a rare cancer after receiving the best medical treatment money and power can buy. The cases seem unrelated -- except that the brilliant Joanna Blalock is investigating them all, with her uncanny ability to pry secrets from the dead. One autopsy defies medical logic. Another defies nature. But the separate strands of evidence seem to be leading to the same chilling end -- a state-of-the-art genetics lab where an experimental miracle cure may be medicine's worst nightmare.

A Great Thriller

Instead of the usual medical murder/mystery books that Leonard Goldberg has been writing, Fatal Care deals with a very real subject: Gene Transfer Therapy. The storyline in the book was great. The book opens with three seemingly unrelated deaths; Joanna, a forensic pathologist working for a distinguished hospital in L.A., performs the autopsies. In doing so, she uncovers a plot centered around Bio-Med, a hot new bioengineering firm, and its radical treatment for clogged arteries. The plot rattles along enjoyably as Joanna hits the street with the LAPD to uncover the connection between Bio-Med and the three deaths. This wasn't a fast paced book, but it did hold my attention.

A medical thriller on a par with Patricia Cornwell

Memorial Medical Center in Greater Los Angeles is the base of operations for world-renowned forensic pathologist Joanna Blalock. Together with her significant other, police officer Jake Sinclair, she logs in more work hours in a week than most people put in a month. Right now both are working on cases that overlap which means they are spending even more time together. The duo concludes that a female assassin has killed at least three people in the area. One of the victims was a Russian immigrant who had buried ten perfectly preserved fetuses without organs in a vacant lot. The second deceased was a venture capitalist funding a bioengineering complex. The third dead person is a geneticist who worked at the bioengineering company funded by the second victim. If the intrepid pair can find the link tying the trio together they might track down the lethal hellion and her patrons ordering the hits. Leonard Goldberg provides readers with a full look into the good, the bad, and the ugly world of genetics with his top rate medical thriller FATAL CARE. The story line is on a par with the best of Cornwell and Palmer. The dynamic investigators make quite a team and the killer is a driven professional. All this leads to a fast clip at the start and continues at a record that fast pace that never slows down until the end.Harriet Klausner
