Race off on another adventure with McCrumb!

In this deftly co-written novel, NY Time bestselling author Sharyn McCrumb teams up with racer Adam Edwards to deliver the checkered flag with wit, charm, and a memorable story packed to the bumpers with a cast of intriguing characters. As the dramatis personae include both race car drivers and preachers, it would be easy for an author (or authors) to drift into the usual stereotypes of these individuals. Instead, McCrumb and Edwards present wonderful individuals who each possess their own compelling personalities while defying typecasting. From the batty but endearing angel scholar to the thoughtful sign-following (i.e. snake-handling) preacher, each character is real, engaging, and a reminder never to take much at face value. In addition, the race scenes are well-written and will hold the attention of even those who think NASCAR is a former Egyptian president. MCrumb's usual sharp and insightful wit is in steady supply, as well, with grins and laugh-out- loud moments awaiting the reader ready to ride with these two crafty drivers. Don't miss the green flag on this one!

A read that racing fans will relish

Berkeley finds himself having to teach these pastors how to handle stock car racing, and through the technical expertise of NASCAR driver Adam Edwards and novelist Sharyn McCrumb, a unique story is formed. "Faster Pastor" is a read that racing fans will relish.

Faster Pastor earns advance praise

Read this book anticipating wonderful things since I love the author's Ballad stories, and her racing books have been good reads, too. But instead of falling short, this one kept right up with the others. There were surprises--I liked the male characters better than Pajan, the main female character. As usual, the descriptions of small town life was what carried this book all the way to the finish line--the different churches were handled well. The descriptions of the Snake Handlers and their church was done quite well without making fun of their beliefs, and for the most part, the churches and their individuality made the humor good humor, without making someone the butt of a joke. And what a beginning! A car seemingly comes from out of the sky to crash a NASCAR fan's funeral---and the details of safety, car details and even the jail cell friendships--makes for a novel where you don't want the checkered flag to wave!

Best ever!

Another funny, character rich Southern novel from the master of Southern fiction. This one's contemporary - but with the rich traditions of small town, Tennessee. Adam Edwards, the co-author, is a racing driver and his contribution shows in the male characters and the action sequences, though the collaboration is seamless. This may indeed be the best comic Southern novel ever.
