The Artful Fart

I too am a fan of fart literature. Without history books such as this, we are doomed to repeat the flatulence errors of our elders. I also suggest "The Zen of Farting," which trains an Eastern eye on flatulence, and "It All Began With a Bean," which is the Big Bang of farts.

The ultimate bathroom book

I love the title "Farting, Past..." is that a pun?If you haven't heard of the famous French "fartiste" Le Petomaine you won't get the joke in the name of the governor in Blazing Saddles. This stage artist was such a hit, that he gave a performance for an incognito king who just had to see the vaudville act, but wasn't up for a public appearance. (Le Petomaine also gave private men-only performances.) If you like this book, you'll want other fine works on the subject; don't overlook Kurt Vonnegut, whose alien Tralfamadorians communicate by tapdancing and farting, the probably out of print Passing Gas; the History of inflight Refueling and not the least of which, that excellent book for children The Gas We Pass, translated from the Japanese (who had a famous ad for soap showing a kid farting in a communal hot tub, and also have a tv star that emulates Le Petomaine, thrusts a microphone down his trousers and farts popular tunes.)
