Good for an introduction, of little value to puzzling veterans
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 16 years ago
This collection of logic puzzles will be routine to those who regularly solve puzzles. There is a set of puzzles involving creatures that always tell the truth and those that always lie. There are some that involve basic counting with the pigeonhole principle, water jar puzzles, computing the odds and a sequence of captions where you are required to predict the appearance of the next event. Hints and then solutions to all of the puzzles are included. If you are newly bitten by the puzzle bug, then this book will interest you. Veterans will find the puzzles rather routine and repeats of what they have already done.
great book for kids 8-15

This is a great book of classic logic puzzles formulated in a story format perfect for kids. Each chapters starts a story with mischievous genies or fire-breathing dragons who make people guess the answers to tricky riddles and logic problems. There are many classic puzzles here from discriminating between truth tellers and liars to measuring liquids with the wrong size containers, coin toss odds, and so on. There is a section of tips and clear examples of how to work out each problem using charts and matrixes, so it is a great learning book for beginning logic puzzlers. My 8 year old and I have enjoyed it thoroughly.

A good introduction to Logic Puzzles
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 22 years ago
This book provides a good brief introduction to logic puzzles. Readers get to explore classic problems involving those who (always) tell the truth and those who (always or sometimes) lie; how to cross rivers with limited capacity boats, etc. Each chapter begins with simple riddles that introduce the ideas of one particular type of logic problem. Successive problems are more difficult. By the end of each chapter, readers can solve very complicated problems. This is an excellent introduction to logic problems. An entire chapter of hints can help those who are unsure of how to proceed. It is particularly useful for me as a teacher. These problems give students some fun work to play with when they are done with their regular assignments. Those more familiar with logic problems may want to find a more challenging book.
