FAMOUS PAINTED CATS (2002) by Heather Busch & Burton Silver This book is basically a collection of colorful pictures from another book by the same authors called 'Why Paint Cats'. The difference is that the pages here have perforated edges so that you can remove them and use them as postcards. The images themselves are of cats who've been "decorated" in unusual ways. Some of them look like extras from a feline production of Moulin Rouge. Others that stick out in my mind are a skeleton painted cat and a red, white and blue patriot cat. Sometimes the text on the back of the postcards is even funnier than the picture. The "gallery speak" explanations are sprinkled with new age themes and are made to give you the impression that cat painting is a liberation movement. For example: "Paula Carson is a neo-totemist whose most recent work is concerned with the imposition of totemic invertebrate markings on the feline form as a way of illustrating female power dichotomies." As others have noted, please don't try this at home!
