A writer to look for!

This was a strong debut novel. Dunbar focuses on the characters and their motivations, and--most unusually for current mysteries--cares about her prose style and her craft as well as the possibilities of her plot. She is obviously knowledgeable about the art world--in a way it felt like some of the early Ngaio Marsh mysteries, where Troy's knowledge of art arcana was key to solving the crimes. As a result, you get a book that sticks in your mind and you find yourself what will happen to these two characters in the future. If Dunbar decides to make a series out of her protagonists, I'll be the first one in line to buy the sequels. There are very few mystery novelists writing today that I can say that about!

A very good read

High Court Judge Sir Richard Fleming is probably going to be appointed to the Appeals Court because of his outstanding career, his excellent public profile, and his overall stand on judicial issues. During his life, Richard has made many enemies and several horrific errors. His daughter Leonie remains the light of his existence especially after her mother died when she was a little lass. The father daughter duo are so close, her fiancé Jack left her because she refused to choose him over her dad.Leonie owns a shop which she shares with her female friend Phil, who runs an art gallery in the building. Someone is out to get Leonie, making threatening calls, breaking into the store, and attacking an employee. Many people may see Leonie as a target to even up the score with Richard, whose only weakness is his love for his daughter. As she travels the gauntlet laid down by her stalker, Leonie is forced to deal with repressed events from her past that will shape her future if she lives long enough to do so.Catherine Dunbar gives readers an inside look at the British art scene that shows the perspectives of the artists, forgers, gallery owners, and patrons. The audience learns how an artist gets their works exhibited or rejected. The story line is exciting and entertaining because of the likable characters who strike a chord with the reader.Harriet Klausner
