What a great paranormal read!

I had this book on my wish list forever but had never read anything from this author so I purchased it on a whim last week and I'm so glad I did. The story starts with the heroine, Fallon, who was turned by a sadistic Master vampire and made into his blood slave. Said vampire also killed her small daughter so after escaping and going on the run she vows to kill him and then join her daughter. Fallon runs into our hero, Adrian another Master vampire in a small town bar in his territory. For Adrian it was lust at first site, that soon turns to love. He knows she's running from something but she doesn't trust him enough to tell him her secrets. Adrian and Fallon are wonderful characters that are really fleshed out. You're eager for Adrian to learn what Fallons running from so that he can take care of the threat and her pain over losing her daughter is tangible. There are plenty of hot and steamy parts to the book too..but pretty tame compared to most of the Samhain published books I've read. I highly recommend this book.

Fallon and Adrian

Fallon is out for revenge. The master vampire that turned her into a vampire (Chavez) brutally murdered her daughter and kept her a prisoner. Now that she has escaped her only goal is to find a way to destroy Chavez and then she will join her daughter in death. Fallon has been on the run, searching for another master vampire in hopes that they will help her to learn how to destroy Chavez. What she doesn't anticipate is running into Adrian, a master vampire that stirs her very soul and sets her body aflame. Adrian is the master vampire in his area, responsible for everyone (vampire and human). When he spots Fallon looking for nourishment without asking for his permission he goes in to intercede. As he watches her his body starts screaming out that she is his and before he knows it she is in his arms and he is informing her that the only nourishment she will get will come from him. This is exactly what Fallon has been searching for (she is sure she can learn what she needs to destroy a master vampire from Adrian) so she does not resist when Adrian takes her back to his place for a night of unbelievable passion. What Fallon does not realize is that one night is not enough for Adrian...he wants forever and he always gets what he wants. Can Fallon convince Adrian to instruct her on how to kill a master vampire? How will Adrian react when he realizes Fallon intends to walk into the sun once she has destroyed Chavez? Read this book and see how the story ends. Kudos to Mackenzie Mckade. She has brought another fantastic tale to life. The pain Fallon feels when she thinks about her daughter is gutwrenching and heartwarming at the same time. Adrian is supreme alpha and will stop at no lengths to keep Fallon safe. They really steam up the pages on their journey of self discovery. I recommend this book and I will be checking out more books from this author.

What to do when the love of your life appears just when you're ready to stop living?

I am a big fan of Mackenzie's work. If you haven't read any of her stories, go now and just do it! Her cowboys are to DIE for! And living in the wild west, I know my cowboys! But this story really grabbed me hard, separate and apart from the cowboys and from the supernatural aspect. For me, this story was much more about the heart of a woman struggling to decide between two emotional imperatives - grief/vengeance for a murdered child and soul mate love. I don't know how I would handle it or what I would be willing to compromise if someone hurt one of my babies. Watching Fallon try to decide whether to open her heart when she's planning the end of her life to join her child made me appreciate Mackenzie's skill as a writer of really compelling romance stories and her understanding of the "people" she writes about. This is a must read... plain and simple. Forget categories, just go get this book!!

FALLON'S REVENGE is a fast-paced emotional novel that readers will be unable to put down.

Fallon McGregor will give anything to destroy Chavez, the Master Vampire who took her as an immortal slave and tortured then killed her daughter, Christy. She spent a year under his control before he grew careless and she was able to escape. Fallon has successfully evaded him ever since but she knows that her luck won't hold out forever. If she's going to kill Chavez before joining her daughter in eternal slumber, she needs a Master Vampire to teach her exactly how to go about bringing about the demise of her tormenter. Adrian Trask is a Master Vampire but he's nothing like Chavez. It's his job to protect those - living and undead - that enter his territory. Because of an upcoming rodeo a flood of people has arrived in town, including one vampiress who's obviously looking to feed. She's the reason that Adrian is in Little Tavern. He's hunting her. There's no way he can risk her hurting one of the people under his protection. He can't deny his own need for her. Adrian is determined to find a way to ensure that Fallon remains with him - always. Fallon has lived with fear, anger, hurt, and her need for revenge for so long that she can't imagine a reason to continue to want to live as an immortal. Adrian should simply be a means to an end - feed, learn what she needs to know and then leave. As she spends time with him and his makeshift 'family' she finds a renewed joy in just being a part of their community. Fear of Chavez finding her overshadows everything and at times moving on seems to be the only solution. Adrian vows to protect her but trust doesn't come easy. The only thing he asks in return is that she remain with him. How can she possibly choose between her daughter or the man who snuck in and seized a little chunk of her heart that she thought died? Mackenzie McKade's FALLON'S REVENGE is a fast-paced emotional novel that readers will be unable to put down. Fallon's emotional upheaval over her daughter's death is sure to touch every woman's heart and bring tears to your eyes. Having personally lost a child under horrific circumstances, I was fully able to appreciate Fallon's wish to follow her daughter into the afterlife. Adrian is just too sexy for words! Face it, the man has had centuries to perfect his potent effect on women and he's definitely not above using it to his advantage. As if that isn't enough, he's a cowboy vampire - completely irresistible. I loved every second of reading this storyline and cried at the end. I'm honestly hoping for a follow up story for some of the other characters who captured my interest and I'd love to know more about what happens with them. Fallon is searching for a Vampire Master - not to master her, but to teach her how to kill another Master. On the run from the sadistic Vampire Master who murdered her young daughter and turned her into a vampire, she stops in Adrian's town for rest and nourishment. But once he has tasted Fallon, Adrian is not willing to let her leave - ever - and is willing to do whatever it takes to keep her at his side. Wow! I could sum up my entire review with that one word. I am completely enthralled by Mackenzie McKade's cowboy vampires! For those of us who love series stories, this one promises opportunities for several more using the characters in this book and tidbits the author has laid in Fallon's Revenge. Fallon is tortured, simultaneously strong and vulnerable, and absolutely heartbreaking without being pitiful. Any woman, mother or not, would feel her pain at losing her only child by the murderous hands of the vampire who subsequently enslaved her. Fallon knows no peace, with nightmares of the incident, but her pain only serves to strengthen her resolve to rid the world of her Master's evil. Adrian, while a Vampire Master himself, is the epitome of the heroic cowboy. Noble and protective of everyone in his care, he extends that protection to Fallon immediately. In Adrian, the author has created a hero both strong and caring but also with his own vulnerabilities. The writing is strong, the plot and subplots are complex yet easy to follow, and both the lead and supporting characters are engaging. This is a book I will definitely be reading again!
