An inspiring and readable story of a saint

It is not an easy task to do justice to a complete portrayal of a great saint. The multifaceted nature of their Being clearly precludes such a possibility. Apart from e, there are other factors such as a permissible length, deadlines and so on which play a major role. That said, the portrait of Kriyananda painted in this book is unusually readable, insightful and informative. In this book, the author has chosen to depict the life of Kriyananda, through the window of the major events in his life. She depicts in detail, his stoical calm in the face of difficult challenges and vicious personal attacks. She also mentions his wide scholarship and grasp of ideas, illustrating her point through citations from his many publications. In a few cases, she mentions the thought streams that led to some of his books and how well they were received by the people at large, because of their freshness. And she truly does justice to the picture she presents of Kriyananda's boundless devotion to the memory and the message of his guru. the result is a very readable account of a great sage, as seen by a close disciple and associate, a detached sage, who has surrendered his all to the Infinite, asking only to be used as an instrument of Divine Will. However, this book stops just short of recounting the internal formation of Kriyananda, the sage. There is too much emphasis on outer events and the natural need of a beloved disciple to show him emerge victorious and unscathed from the various problems that have plagued his life. So do not look for past life connections and/or other secret/ esoteric connections when you read this book. It is based on practical, day to day spirituality, where grit and grace constitute the armor that prevail over evil. Read this book, it's well worth the time you spend reading it. You will emerge with heightened energy and inspiration to live along these lines. Strongly recommended.
