In this wonderful little book, Fr. Hampsch accomplishes much in explaining the gift of faith, how to grow it, how to apply it and how to live by it. The book is in four logical parts including the gift of faith, virtue of faith, growth of faith and prayer of faith. Each part consists of a series of powerful subsections (just a few pages each) that I found easy to read as individual units as either part of my devotion time or as bed-time reading. The tender love and clever wit of Fr. Hampsch shines through in his writing. Even subtitles like these are smart and the content of each is astounding. "Miracle-Limiting Faith vs. Miracle-Triggering Faith;" "Becoming Faith-Fit;" "Operational Christianity;" "Steak and Potatoes Faith;" "Horizontal Growth: The `Contagion of Faith';" "Success through Faith;" and "Survival of the Spiritually Fittest." This book helped me so much in my own growth in faith that I have purchased multiple copies to give to friends, and have used it in small group studies. At the conclusion of each section there are reflection questions that encourage the individual reader to ask a series of helpful questions of himself or herself. I highly recommend this book. Incidentally, although I'm a Protestant and the author is a Catholic priest, I found that this book deals with the essentials of faith in such a way that it is equally powerful for both Catholics and Protestants.
