Discovering fairies ..

When did fairies cease to exist? I don't believe that they have and I believe that they would be happy to share the artwork in this book. This book is beautifully presented on rich glossy paper. This makes it a joy to hold and to read. Some of the art will be instantly recognisable, to some readers, but I feel certain that even the most intrepid explorer of fairydom will find some surprises here as well. First, Mr Zacsek introduces his masters of fairy art: Richard Dadd; Sir Joseph Noel Paton; John Anster Fitzgerald; John Atkinson Grimshaw; Richard Doyle and Arthur Rachem. Mr Zacsek then addresses other artists and influences . For example grouped together under `Literature', I found: William Shakespeare, adult literature and, naturally enough, children's literature. Finally, Mr Zacsek covers `Folklore and Myths', `The Natural World'; and `Angels and Religion'. I confess: I was too busy looking at the accompanying drawings to pay sufficient attention to the text. Still, I am sure that the fairies will ensure that I learn whatever I need to know. Jennifer Cameron-Smith
