When the Earl of Merton suddenly finds himself playing the knight in shining armor to a damsel in distress, he knows his days as a notorious rake are numbered. But though the lady seems grateful for his assistance, she flees the scene without revealing her name. Past scandals and present dangers threaten his pursuit of the mysterious lady, but he knows she is to be his destiny. This is a first-time regular print hardcover edition of a title previously available as a mass market paperback.
I really enjoyed this book. It wasn't overly dramatic, and the poor lead proposed about 3 times and still kept coming back!

Martin Cambden Willesden, the fifth Earl of Merton, has lost his father and two brothers and now acts as a knight to a damsel in distress. [where do they get these titles? grin] He is in a bit of a temper - on a dark back road [path really] - he was hoping to hit the road to London before dark. Hearing a scream he ties up his team of horses and bounds across the fields [or woods] to stop an attempted abduction - tis a fair Juno who swings around and slugges him - - - The attraction that springs up between them makes it imperative that he protect her - especially from his own rakish tendencies. He is bound and determined to wed his fair Juno - Lady Helen Walford [introed in Tangled Reins] and although she falls in love with him - she behaves very correctly and of course puts some obstacles in his path.We once again meet up with the Marquis of Hazelmere and his wife Dorothea - and all the friends called upon in Tangled Reins -- This makes the story far more interesting to me as the people become more like friends. This man of the silver grey eyes [or should I say orbs?] is lead a merry dance before he can make his fair Juno his.S. Laurens books make for a great change of pace and excellent reading -- HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
