Missed it by just this much for me.

Although I love Karen Monings work; I was not a fan of this series I found it a little to dark for my tastes. A little to far for my stretch of the imagination. Her skills with realism are great and she gets right Into her characters personalities and I can amagine even the the folklore may be based in fact; I just can wrap my head around how the evil is portrayed in this story. Sorry.

Whoa thrown right into the action! Excellant!

Mac and Barrons are still after the Sinsar Dubh. Mac still doesn't know who she should pledge her allegiance too: Barrons or V'lane? A lot of her questions are still going unanswered by both. Who is Barrons really? What is he? How old is he really? Is he good or evil? Both "men" are fighting desperately to win her to their sides; both have put their mark on her physically. Yet everyone including Christian MacKelter are all wondering who has slept with her. I don't know how that's going to affect the story in the future. None the less, war is about to be engaged. Mac and the sidhe-seerers know something is going on in Dublin, something big. She still isn't being accepted into the "club" she so desperately wants to be a part of. Rowena has six woman attack Mac to retrieve the spear. Things don't go as expected. Mac gets her sister's diary entries sent to her by an anonymous sender. She has no idea who has her beloved sister's diary and who is sending them to her. After receiving these mysterious letters she gets a call from the Lord Master himself. Mac finds out what the Sinsar Dubh really is and is astounded (truly it is surprising).The Sinsar Dubh is moving around Dublin by itself, for you to find out you'll have to read the story =) what becomes of Mac in the end? Will Mac ever find out who Barrons is? What happened to V'lane? So many questions to be answered in the next book! My gosh what a cliffhanger! Moning you have done it again! Faefever is by far the best one in the series yet! Some questions have been answered but you are still left with a ton more. I can really feel for Mac she has so much on her plate. I'm not going to spoil it for anyone, but wow, a lot of unexpected things happen! You are left right in the action at the end. I really want to continue reading Mac's story, hopefully you will too. Excellent book, met my expectations and more!

A critical link in the storyline

I absolutely loved DF and BF, books 1 and 2. And I disagree that the storyline did not advance. Ok, so maybe we didn't get as much nitty-gritty sexy scenes but we learned so much more necessary background for the entire series. Karen Moning has continuously said that this is going to be a 5 book series. If you are a person that asks your buddy sitting next to you how the movie ends, now is not the time to begin this series. Wait a couple of years until the last book comes out. But if you want a fast paced, superbly written fantasy fiction novel, then by all means, join the rest of us "Moning Maniacs" on this crazy/wonderful ride through Mac's life.

the darkest hour

Take a deep breath....okay, I admit, I read some of the spoilers before I read the book. I couldn't help it! And for me anyways, it helped prepare me for what was to come. This is the darkest book so far but conversely, it was also one of the funniest and had the most moments that reminded me of KMM's highlander series. Maybe it was because Christian explains who his uncles are. It was bittersweet to have so many of her previous heroes mentioned...yet know that they wouldn't be saving our heroine this time. Mac's story doesn't yet have a happy ending and I want one for her so badly. I think I understand Mac when she talks about spatial distortion--I feel it when I'm reading about such dark things happening in the same world that Dagaeus, Drustan, Adam and Cian had once occupied and I believed had saved. There are funny moments with Vlane and Barrons. I laughed out loud at a scene with Barrons. All I can say is that the scene was so vivid I could picture it. There was sexual tension, hope, lust, love, fear and everything that Mac goes through we feel. Vlane and Barrons both show more of themselves in this one. Vlane is more forthcoming with information, explaining about the Unseelie and Seelie. KMM explains a lot in this book, things that were never revealed before. Mac is a much stronger person now, her spirit is still strong but it's tempered by what she's been through. Will go through. If I could, I wish I could fast forward time and it would be next year and I would be reading the next book right now. Great book. Nail biting cliff hanger. My suggestion is to read it slow, savor the funny moments, the sexy moments and the revelations because we've got another year to wait to find out what happens to Mac.

Loved it -- but wishin' it was a paperback!

There are only four authors whose publication dates I follow religiously. And ever since the Harry Potter series ended and Anita Blake turned into a creepy sort of person I'd be disinterested in meeting if she were real, there are only two of them whose publication dates I follow religiously so I can actually be at the bookstore the moment it opens on release day to buy my copy. Karen Marie Moning is one of them. I was introduced to her Highlander series a couple years ago and fell passionately in love with the characters and their happily-ever-after endings (not to mention the heart-pounding love scenes!) Her writing style is easy to read and a perfect mix of intelligence and comfortable colloquialism that makes it easy to approach without being full of typos and awkwardly structured sentences. I say that Karen Marie Moning is a romance author for the people who want some decent plot with their sex! Mix in some gorgeous men in kilts and an element of fantasy (time travel, druids, Fae Princes, some Berserkers, whatever) and you're good to go. All that being said, her Fever series is completely different. Faefever is the third in the series and I would strongly advise you NOT read out of order (Bloodfever, Darkfever, Faefever). Each subsequent installment of the series is closely tied in to the one before it and without that foundation, it would be very confusing. I would also categorize the first three books in this series as more "urban fantasy" than "paranormal romance" so if you need a happy ending, these dark books might leave you feeling unfulfilled, at least for now. The main character, MacKayla Lane, is a ditzy southern belle who is forced to grow up fast. After her sister is brutally murdered while studying abroad, MacKayla (Mac for short) travels to Ireland to identify her sister's body and get some more information. She is unwittingly sucked into an unbelievably crazy subworld of Celtic myth that includes bad fairies, druids, dark hallows, evil plots, mystery and unfulfilled sexual desires with men of indeterminate scruples. Moning's fans have quickly learned that the author has the ability to write some unbelievably compelling cliffhangers and this installment was no different. The things I especially liked about this particular book: --Christian MacKelter (mmm, young druid man, I hope to see him get his own book in the Highlander series. I wouldn't mind seeing V'lane go the way of Adam Black and get his own either but that might be a stretch!) --the MacHalo (Mac made Barrons laugh, yay! Wow, total fangirl moment there.) --V'lane dressing Mac in sleazy bikinis (hilarious, I could totally picture it) --learning more about the Lord Master --more clues about who/what Barrons is (dun, dun, dun!) The ending killed me *sad face* and I'm OMGCAN'TWAIT for the next book and desperately wish I hadn't discovered the series until all five had been published. So yes, my one recommendation would be that if you haven't started this ser

All I was expecting and more!

All that I have become accustomed to expect from a KMM Fever book! Intriguing, shocking, thought provoking and being left with the desire to know what happens next. Its main focus is Mac finding out more about who she is and becoming stronger within herself so she is able to face what is still to come, who she can trust, and more about some of the key players in this thrilling series. As usual sets as many questions as it answers and gives you as much to think about at the end as the previous two have!
